Match Result: Iceland
Both Faroe Islands and Iceland are all to familiar with tasting defeat. It makes it tough to read into their form for our projections but we're confident Iceland will run out winners when they meet on Friday. For starters, they've won the last three head to head meetings, which is a good sign for the Icelandic fans. Then you have that form we touched on. Faroe Islands have drawn three and lost three of their last six with the toughest opponents in that spell probably one of Scotland or Austria. Iceland only have one win – and four losses – in the last five, however, they have at least faced the likes of Mexico, Germany and England in that time. Playing tougher opposition does hamper the basic form guide but it's a good learning curve. It will stand Iceland in good stead to win this game.
Both teams to score: Yes
When you consider the depressing runs both these sides have been on you might expect any tips around goal scoring to be pretty damp. We're backing both teams to score though. We've already made the prediction that Iceland win, which will involve a goal, so that leaves Faroe Islands to consider. They've only failed to score in one of their last eight games. Iceland meanwhile have conceded in their last dozen matches.
First half goals over/under 0.5: Iceland, Over
Our final prediction backs Iceland to notch a goal inside the opening 45 minutes. In the last five matches where they've netted, four of them have seen first half goals. Faroe Islands, who will be tasked with keeping things tight, have shipped early goals in their last three matches on the bounce. It would be of no surprise to see the same happen again here.
Faroe Islands vs Iceland: A bit about the teams
Faroe Islands
It's not been a good run of form for Faroe Islands over the last six games even by their own standards, which, in brutal honesty, isn't a particularly high bar. A home match against Iceland gives them a chance though. Hallur Hansson – the captain – is near on an ever present in the centre of midfield; he'll have a big role to play if they go on to grab a result. The same can be said of 30-year-old striker Klaemint Olsen. He only has five international goals from 37 appearances but four of them came in the latest Nations League campaign; his confidence will be high.
Iceland
It's not very often Iceland head into a match as favourites; that's the tag that awaits them here though and it's a rare opportunity for Runar Runarsson to potentially grab himself a clean sheet – albeit we don't think he will. The game will really be about what Iceland can do going in the other direction though. Arnor Sigurdsson is out injured so a lot of the creative responsibility will fall on the likes of Albert Gudmundsson. 18-year-old Isak Johannesson, who has been linked with a host of top clubs, is another to watch.
