Match result: Stevenage
Barrow didn't have a good time of it last season finishing fourth bottom and there has been little in recent form to suggest the new campaign will be any different. They've not won a single pre-season match and, including the back end of last season, have now just won two matches from their last having lost six. Stevenage meanwhile ended last year with seven points from three games and they've been in good shape as the season nears. They've played six friendly games winning four, drawing one and narrowly losing to Wycombe for their one defeat. It might only be pre-season but Stevenage will come into this game with more confidence than Barrow and, given they haven't lost to Barrow in seven meetings, everything suggests they're going to win.
Total Goals: Under 2.5
Stevenage might be on a good run of form but they're hardly playing in a manner that is dream football for the neutrals; their last 10 matches have served up a total of just 17 goals, which is an average of 1.7 per match. When you consider six of those goals came in a 3-3 draw that's even more eye opening as to why we think this match will come in under 2.5 goals; that high scoring draw is the only game of the 10 that exceeded the two goal mark. For Barrow, seven of their last 10 matches have come up short of the 2.5 cut off too as have three of the last five meetings between the pair.
To win to nil: Stevenage
In our earlier predictions we mentioned the fact that Stevenage have won six of their last 10 matches. Well, they've also not conceded in any of the games where they've ran out winners. Given that impressive defensive form along with the fact Barrow have only scored seven goals across their last 10 matches this bet looks like a very good punt.
Stevenage vs Barrow: Match preview
Stevenage
Stevenage arrive at the League Two kick off in fantastic shape. They've lost just one of their last nine games whilst they've beaten and drawn with Premier League opposition in pre-season in the form of Crystal Palace and Watford respectively. They looks solid at the back, which means that if Luke Norris can step up to the goal scoring plate there is a real chance they'll walk away with three points.
Barrow
The season hasn't even kicked off yet and already things look bleak for Barrow. They were poor last season and they've look ropey in pre-season too having failed to win a single friendly; their opposition has been considerably easier than that of Stevenage too. If they're to get anything from this game their best bet will be to keep it tight at the back. Can experienced keeper Josh Lillis roll back the years to keep Stevenage at bay?
