Antwerp to Win

Antwerp let a two-goal lead slip when they lost at Mechelen on the opening weekend of the new Belgian season, though we’re tipping The Great Old to bounce back in style against Kortrijk. Antwerp took six points from six and scored seven goals against The Guys in last season’s encounters, and having toppled them as recently as March (4-2), the hosts should be backed to prevail again.

Over 2.5 Goals

A net-shredding average of 5.0 goals hit the net per 90 minutes in Antwerp and Kortrijk’s pair of high-octane skirmishes last season and the early evidence this term suggests we should expect more of the same when the teams reconvene on Sunday. Five goals were registered in Antwerp’s campaign opener at Mechelen last week and The Great Old’s attacking focus should lead to more excitement against Kortrijk.

Michael Frey to Score Anytime

Antwerp’s summer capture Michael Frey broke his duck for his new employers just 18 minutes into his debut last week and the Swiss forward should be full of confidence as a result. The 27-year-old notched a hattrick when he last faced Kortrijk for his old club Waasland-Beveren in April and he is worth backing to make his mark against the same opponents for Antwerp.

Antwerp vs Kortrijk: Match Preview

Antwerp

Last season, Antwerp finished in a lofty second place during the regular Belgian season, and though their subsequent performances in the playoffs were a let-down, their campaign was still viewed as a major success. The price of that success was the loss of promising manager Ivan Leko however, though his replacement, ex-Midtjylland boss Brian Priske, was an inriguing appointment.

Kortrijk

Another season of struggle is anticipated for Kortrijk following their 14th place finish last term, though they did manage to get their fresh campaign off to a positive start with a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Seraing last week. After some modest market manoeuvres, Kortrijk’s squad in 2021/22 is largely the same as it was for the past 12 months, so don’t expect any remarkable upturn in fortunes for Luka Elsner’s men.
