After several years of witnessing very little competition for the title, Juventus had to fight for the crown in the 2019-20 Italian Serie A campaign. The upcoming 2020-21 season promises to be a more competitive affair than the league has witnessed in recent years. A number of strong outfits have risen to the position of challenging Juventus’ stranglehold on the title.
Italian Serie A 2020-21 Title Winner Prediction
Juventus are hoping to pick up an incredible 10th successive league title. It is not a surprise that the Old Lady is branded as a favourite by most bookmakers. Yet, the club had a difficult and nervous conclusion to the 2019-20 season, as the likes of Inter Milan were almost able to cause a stunning upset. Even with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad, Juventus being unable to dominate the division came as a surprise and it led to the swift departure of Maurizio Sarri. Juve legend Andrea Pirlo has taken the hot seat and he has already made his mark by making several changes to the squad during the transfer window. The biggest change of the summer would be swapping Miralem Pjanic with Barcelona for Arthur.
Juventus have a squad full of experience, but it is starting to show its age. Furthermore, the team lacks the presence of an experienced manager in the dugout. Still, many of the players in the Juventus set up are used to winning titles on a regular basis. This incredibly experienced squad is still a strong bet in the Italian Serie A outright odds for the title.
Inter Milan almost came very close to picking up their first league title since 2010 and Antonio Conte’s men are expected to improve even further in the 2020-21 campaign. The second place finish has been followed up a decent amount of backing for Conte in the transfer market. The mood around the club will be a lot more positive following the departure of Mauro Icardi, who had been seen as a negative influence on the squad. The €50 million picked up from the sale of the striker has been duly reinvested into the squad with signings like Achraf Hakimi, who cost around €40 million from Real Madrid, and Nicolò Barella, who was picked up from Cagliari for €25 million. Furthermore, Alexis Sanchez will also stay at the San Siro.
Even with all the positives, Inter still remain the team in transition and a second place finish might just be seen as another positive for the team. The commitments of the Champions League could also distract Conte.
Our Prediction – Juventus to win the title at 10/11
Italian Serie A 2020-21 Top Four Predictions
The battle for the Champions League spots was fierce in the previous campaign and there could be at least seven teams competing for the top four positions. Since Juventus and Inter Milan are likely to be favourites for the top two places, it leaves five teams who could potentially grab a qualification place for the Champions League. Unlike in the last few seasons when there was not a great challenge for these places, the likes of Roma, AC Milan, and Lazio all look strong to compete with Atalanta.
Atalanta have been extremely competitive in recent years. Gian Pierro Gasperini has made the team quite exciting to watch. The attacking prowess coupled with the strong defensive capabilities of the team make them a strong contender to finish in the third spot – if not better. It is incredible that Atalanta were only five points behind Juventus last season and the club were competing for the Europa League not too long ago.
The final fourth place may turn out to be the puzzle, as many teams are quite evenly matched. Roma have lacked the consistency required for a strong push into the top four, but the same cannot be said about AC Milan, Lazio, and Napoli. Gattuso came to Napoli and changed the fortunes of the team to make sure that the qualified for the Europa League. Even though there have been a lot of departures from Napoli, the club are betting big on Victor Osimhen, who has been signed for €70 million from Lille.
Just like Napoli, AC Milan have also been experiencing a good turn of fortune under Stefano Pioli. The improvement in form shown by Pioli’s team towards the end of last season remains a significant reason to consider the seven-time European champions for a place in the top four. The key departures for Milan in the summer have been Suso and Andre Silva, while Milan have predominantly been limited to a few loan deals and free transfers. The crucial signing for the club, according to the Italian Serie A betting tips, could be Sandro Tonali.
After making a comeback to Champions League football for the first time in more than a decade, Lazio will be encouraged about the prospects for the 2020-21 campaign. Most of the star players have been retained by Simone Inzaghi and this bodes well for competing in different competitions. Among the different teams competing for the top four places, Lazio have the stable presence of Inzaghi guiding them through a tough run of matches in the first five games. Inzaghi has had the opportunity to strengthen the team with the signing of Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce.
Our prediction – Atalanta at 4/5 and Lazio at 6/4
Italian Serie A 2020-21 Relegation Contenders Prediction
Lecce, SPAL, and Brescia were the teams relegated from the Italian Serie A last season. This time around, the newly promoted clubs – Crotone, Benevento, and Spezia – can be considered as favourites for going down.
Benevento are back in the top division after a two-year absence. Back in 2017-2018 when the club are in the Italian Serie A, Benevento failed to make a huge impression and went down after finishing bottom of the table. Filippo Inzaghi appears keen on avoiding a repeat of the same and the club have made some decent acquisitions in the summer. The likes of Kamil Glik and Gianluca Lapadula can provide a lot of experience to the squad. Inzaghi had a difficult time with the likes of Bologna and Milan, but Benevento have come back into the Italian Serie A after shattering a number of records. Even then, the top division might be asking too much of the team.
Crotone are preparing for only their third season in the top flight. The club know what it takes to stay in the division after having avoided relegation during the 2016-17 campaign before going on a season later. Now, the club are back in the top flight after a two-year absence. The club will be employing a 3-5-2 formation that has been successful for Giovanni Stroppa, who has been able to get some decent acquisitions during the off-season. The arrival of Eduardo Henrique and Lisandro Magallan will back the team up with good quality, according to the Italian Serie A predictions.
Spezia are the favourite to go down as the bottom club. Vincenzo Italiano has been able to guide Spezia to the top division for the first time in the club’s history. They have been promoted through the play-offs which makes it a lot difficult to be ready in shape for the new campaign – especially with the break being so small. Spezia have made some interesting signings like Jacopo Sala and Ardian Ismajli.
Our prediction – Spezia at 1/2 and Crotone at 8/13
Italian Serie A 2020-21 Top Goalscorer Predictions
Last season, a number of bets went into backing Cristiano Ronaldo for the title of being the top scorer in the Italian Serie A. After all, the former Real Madrid superstar had come into the division with an average of more than 35 goals every season. Yet, Ciro Immobile managed to upset all the odds and finished top scorer with 36 goals from his 37 matches. The 30-year-old has now scored more than 30 goals in each of his last four seasons.
Romelu Lukaku was a new addition to the Italian Serie A but he managed to make an immediate impression with 23 goals for Inter Milan. Lukaku has the potential to establish a remarkable partnership with new signing Lautaro Martinez. Even though the former Manchester United striker’s time in Italy did not start off smoothly, he has been able to quickly settle down and start scoring goals. The confidence placed by Antonio Conte in Lukaku is a major advantage, according to the Italian Serie A tips.
A managerial change at Juventus does not help Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed to achieve the incredible heights that he did at Real Madrid. The Portuguese international did come up with a return of 31 goals last season, but it remains to be seen if he will be as effective in Andrea Pirlo’s system. The departure of attacking players like Gonzalo Higuain could favour Ronaldo.
Our prediction – Romelu Lukaku at 4/1
