Everybody loves seeing goals in football, and it can be really exciting to try and predict who will actually score in a game. Will it be the star man up-front, an attacking midfielder, or an unlikely defender who rises to knock a header in from a corner? Goals are the lifeblood of football, and the online bookmakers obviously understand this too. That is exactly why you can find ‘anytime goalscorer’ markets for a bunch of players for almost every game. It’s not always the strikers that are the red hot favourites in these markets either, which makes things all the more interesting.
You should find this market for almost any game of football, whether for a domestic game or a larger international game. Of course, like all other types of football bets, there are a few things you should pay attention to when making these kinds of wagers. This is what we will be looking at in this post, so please, take the time to read our tips for anytime goalscorer markets, and as always – gamble responsibly!
Anytime goalscorer betting tips
You would think that it was always logical to go for the best striker on the pitch when looking for the anytime goalscorer markets. However, if you only ever look at players such as Ronaldo and Messi for the anytime goalscorer markets, it is rare that you are going to find a tonne of value, which of course takes away from the potential return that you can get for your money. In this kind of market, you need to get a bit more creative, and it just so happens that we've put together some of the best tips for this market in the categories below.
Tip #1 – check out the in-form players
It is always beneficial to look into what players are currently in great form or not. Of course, if you are specifically looking at the goalscoring markets, it is vital that you identify players that have been scoring plenty of goals recently. This doesn't guarantee that the player you choose will go ahead and score a goal during the match that you are betting on, but after all, nothing is guaranteed when it comes to football.
For that reason, all we can do is try to make the recent statistics and form help us in making our anytime goalscorer predictions. We would advise looking at the previous five games to get an idea which of these players are in form or not. This should give you enough evidence to show what players are looking likely to score, and we don't often look further back than the last five games, as you want to keep things as recent and as relevant as possible.
Tip #2 – don’t always go for the obvious players
In sports betting, you are never going to get too far if you only ever been on the favourite. This is true for whatever kind of bet you are making, as the real value is found when you look at a market that might not be traditional or expected. After all, if you can find players that are in good form but may not be listed as a favourite to score a goal in a game, this is where you stand to receive the highest return. Just like any other bets, it isn't guaranteed, but the fact is that if you go for the less favoured players, you can bet less and potentially win the same as if you went for the favourite players.
You should always keep this in mind with any bet that you are making, but this is especially true for the anytime goalscorer market. Just as a side note, you might want to stray away from the strikers when looking at these markets, as if you choose to go for attacking midfielders or even defenders that are capable of scoring goals, you might just find something special lurking in the odds.
Tip #3 – try to find odds that provide value
This is closely linked into what we have been talking about above, but let us take a bit more time to actually justify what this means. Let's work through an example to actually identify what would constitute as ‘finding value’ in the market. Let's say that Juventus were playing against a rather poor team in comparison to what they're capable of. If you were to look through the anytime goalscorer markets here, you would probably find that Cristiano Ronaldo is almost odds on to score a goal at some point in the match. With that said, you would need to then risk a lot of money to actually win anything at all, due to the odds.
However, this sort of game could be a time where one of the midfielders actually grabs a goal, and the odds for this happening would be far higher than a player such as Ronaldo to score a goal. While this is just one example, there are many different situations in which you can find value within the anytime goalscorer markets. It doesn't just need to be when a high-profile team plays a weaker team either.
Tip #4 – see who the penalty and free-kick takers are
It is often the case that the main striker for a team will take penalties and free kicks, but that isn't always the case. For example, there could be one player who is on the pitch for a team who is an absolutely awesome free-kick taker, but they generally play on the wing or in a central midfield position. Since they are the designated free-kick taker, however, it is to be expected that they will get the chance to score a goal from a set-piece, and the odds can be quite large if you can identify these players.
You might need to do a bit of research to find a team where the main striker isn't the one who is designated to take set pieces, but it will be well worth the time investment!
