Johor Darul Ta’zim get their second victory in Group G

JDT bounced back to claim a 1-nil victory over Ratchaburi after losing 1-0 to Nagoya Grampus in their AFC Champions League opener. We think they are better defensively to prevent the South Korean side- Pohang Steelers- from scoring in this fixture having kept six clean sheets in the last ten matches. Pohang Steelers have let in goals in eight of their last ten matches which makes them vulnerable at the back before this game.

Draw at half-time

This fixture is important for both sides and should, therefore, come with a lot of expectations. With that in mind, we expect a hotly contested game that will be deadlocked in the first half. A draw at the break looks plausible.

No Goal-Goal

Goals on both sides may look plausible because these teams have only failed to score twice in their last ten matches. However, at this stage in the competition where both teams are fighting for the third spot, we expect a more defensive approach from either side. JTD looks better defensively having kept six clean sheets in their last ten matches and so we don’t think they will concede as much as Pohang Steelers will.

Game Preview: Which Side will go Third after the Third Match in Group G?

The fixture between Pohang Steelers and Johor Darul Ta’zim epitomizes the battle for the top three in Group G. The question is which side has an upper hand?

Pohang Steelers

Pohang Steelers started their participation with a 2-0 emphatic victory over first-timers, Ratchaburi. However, the South Korean side could not keep that momentum when they lost 3-0 to Group G leaders, Nagoya Grampus. They have only kept two clean sheets in their last ten matches. Moreover, Pohang Steelers kept only one clean sheet in the last five games, which further puts head coach, Gi Dong Kim, under pressure to deliver on Monday. Gi Dong Kim has been at the helm since April 2019 and averages 1.72 points per game after 82 matches on the dugout.

Johor Darul Ta’zim

DJT have emerged as a team to watch in the AFC Champions League. Despite failing to win their first match of the competition, a 1-0 victory in the second game should give the Malaysian side the much-needed momentum before Monday fixture against Pohang Steelers. A vital highlight in the performances of JDT is their solid defence that has leaked only one goal. In this fixture, head coach Benjamin Mora who averages 2.36 points per match after 22 games, will most likely invest more in the attacking front.
