Cameroon to Win
The Indomitable Lions ended their run of four matching winless streak with a hard-fought 0-1 victory over Nigeria this past Friday. The two sides are in action again, the Super Eagles being the away side in this fixture. In recent history, Nigeria have the better overall H2H record but their recent defeat does not inspire confidence. With little time between fixtures, betting on the recent victors has a better probability of coming true.
Total Goals: Under 2.5
Toni Conceicao has finally reversed the fortunes of Cameroon, but his task remains incomplete. The Indomitable Lions have kept their backline in check but continue to struggle at the other end of the pitch. They have only scored two goals in five matches. However, all these matches have been on the road. With Nigeria keeping three clean sheets prior to their 1-0 defeat, have proven that they know how to keep their rivals a bay. As defensive outputs reign supreme, it looks unlikely that this fixture will have goals galore for the viewers.
Both Teams to Score: No
Four of Nigeria's matches have seen a similar trajectory. Only one side gets on the scoreboard, and on three occasions it has been the Super Eagles. However, in their last outing, the roles were reversed as Cameroon managed to shut them out. The Indomitable Lions have kept two clean sheets in succession and can make it three in three following their heroics last time out.
Cameroon vs Nigeria: Team News and Match Preview
Cameroon
This is not the same Cameroon squad that had Samuel Eto'o and Rigobert Song in its lineup, far from it. The journeyman Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is the leader of this pack, encapsulating the fall from grace of the Indomitable Lions. Following three successive defeats in the African Cup of Nations, Toni Conceicao has stemmed their slide but for how long. Cameroon have been impressive at the back but look out of sorts when going forward. Conceicao does not have reliable attacking deputies to Choupo-Moting and needs to engineer his squad to extract more from their talisman.
Nigeria
The Super Eagles were unbeaten in five matches before they came across Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions held on for a 1-0 victory, ending their streak and baring the gaps in their tactics. Nigeria struggled when going forward and could not pierce the Cameroonian defence despite having fifteen shots on goal. Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon had forgettable years with their respective club sides and looked out of the element in the national team colours. Hopefully, with Victor Osimhen getting more minutes, Nigeria can regain their attacking flair back.
