Salford Double Chance

After a sluggish start to the campaign, Salford finally got their act together last weekend, winning in style against promotion candidates Newport County (3-0) at the Peninsula Stadium. With their confidence restored, we think City are worth backing in the double chance market on Saturday against a Carlisle team that often underperform at home. The Cumbrians have won only four of their 15 League Two games at Brunton Park in 2021 and they could drop more points there this weekend.

Under 2.5 Goals

Our second tip focuses on the total goal markets on Saturday, where backing under 2.5 goals to be scored could prove a profitable move. Both of Carlisle’s first two home matches this term fell below that goal line, indeed, nine of their last 11 games at Brunton Park produced under 2.5 goals overall. Salford meanwhile, are averaging just one goal per 90 minutes of League Two action since the summer, so expect a game of few chances in Cumbria.

Half Time Result: Draw

With clear cut chances likely to be thin on the ground, backing a half time draw appeals at the prices on offer. Four of Salford’s last five League Two away assignments were all square at the interval, while four of Carlisle’s last six contests at home in the same division were level at the break. We’re tipping that pattern to continue at Brunton Park.

Carlisle vs Salford: Match Preview

Carlisle

Following a three-game winless run in League Two, Carlisle were in dire need of a pick me up and The Cumbrians enjoyed a victory, albeit by penalty kicks, over Hartlepool in the EFL Trophy in midweek following a pulsating 3-3 draw in regulation time. Chris Beech’s Playoff hopefuls have been frustratingly inconsistent in the league so far and their habit of drawing at Brunton Park has produced five straight stalemates there.

Salford

Salford cantered to an impressive 3-0 win against Newport County last weekend – a result that manager Gary Bowyer will hope will kickstart their campaign after City displayed little in the way of forward momentum in the season’s early exchanges. The Ammies’ 1-0 lost at Oldham in the EFL Trophy in midweek was considered a minor setback and Salford will likely wheel out their big guns again this weekend having rested some of their stars against the Latics.
