Match Result: Faroe Islands
We'd by telling a porky if we dressed this game up as anything but two nations who expect to lose most games going head to head. Faroe Islands have failed to win in seven whilst Liechtenstein are winless in eight. Our prediction backs Faroe Islands to get the victory here. Although their last 10 matches haven't been pretty – with just one win and four draws – they're rarely battered out of sight; their recent loss to Scotland the notable exception. Liechtenstein, however, have a not dissimilar record across the last 10 – two wins, two draws and six defeats – but they have been tucked up a few times. The head to head record leans the way of the Faroe Islands too; they've won the past four meetings.
Over/under goals: Over 2.5
The main reason for this bet is based on the H2H record served up by Faroe Islands and Liechtenstein. The two nations have met four times in the past 20 years with the most recent three all going over 2.5 goals. The game average of those three sits at 4.0; even with the fourth match added in it only drops to 3.3, which is still enough to see this bet win. We do need to factor in recent form as well though and the overall picture concurs with our prediction. Liechtenstein's matches have averaged 2.9 over the last 10 whilst Faroe Islands wash in at 2.6 goals per game in the same period.
Faroe Islands to score between 76th and 90th minute: Yes
As football predictions go, narrowing down the time of a goal is one of the more random tips to offer up. We're going for it here though as we back the Faroe Islands to score late against Liechtenstein. There is a method to the madness though. Firstly, of late, Faroe Islands have struggled to impact games in the opening 45 minutes and given we have backed them to win, this immediately increases the likelihood of a later goal. The real clincher though comes from Liechtenstein; they've shipped a goal in the final 15 minutes of their last seven losses on the road.
Faroe Islands vs Liechtenstein: Match Preview
Faroe Islands
The overall form for Faroe Islands might make pretty woeful viewing but they'll come into this game backing themselves to win. Yes, they lost last time out at home to Iceland, but prior to that their home form had delivered a four game unbeaten run. With Liechtenstein more than beatable the hosts will look to the trio of Joan Simun Edmundsson, Hallur Hansson – who dons the captain's armband – and Brandur Hendriksson Olsen to control the match.
Liechtenstein
We've just mentioned that Faroe Islands have been on a pretty ropey run overall; it's still better than the form that Liechtenstein have offered. They have lost four on the spin. Despite that, they'll take small confidence from the fact that they've won two and drawn one of their last six away games. Yes, they'll have their work cut out to get a result here but in Yanik Frick they at least have someone who they will fancy to threaten the Faroe Islands backline.
