The Irish Premier Division returns this week with four matches slated for this Friday. The third of our previews comes from Ballybofey as Finn Harps prepare to take on Drogheda. The two teams finished last season only just narrowly avoiding the drop with the two sides both finishing on 44 points just two points above Waterford who were relegated. These two teams will be hoping for a more productive campaign this time around and hope to steer well clear of trouble. Both will be looking to put last season behind them and get the new campaign off to the perfect start.
Draw no bet
This is a really tough match to call and this is match that could go either way. The two sides were just seperated by just goal difference last season and with no recent form behind them we think it makes sense to take a few save options when looking to make a bet on the game. The first market we are drawn to is the draw no bet market. With both teams evenly matched we will back Drogheda at the prices and they can be backed at 6/5. Drogheda’s away form last season was patchy – they averaged a single point per away game but they were unbeaten on their two visits to Finn Park last year, picking up four points from a possible six. In a tough match to call we think this could be a good play.
Under 2.5 goals
The games between these teams are often very fiercely fought. Both teams have tasted success in the last five head to head contests but the winning margin has never been more than two goals. Four of the last five have seen under 2.5 goals and it’s not hard to see why, considering how closely matched both of these teams are. In a match where both teams will want to avoid defeat we think this could be a cagey game and think the under 2.5 goal market is a great one to play here.
Second half goals
With this being the very first match of the season the type of match we see could be very difficult to predict, it could be a fast free flowing game as both sides come into the match with fresh new optimism or it could be a tight match with both sides not wanting to taste defeat in their first game of the season. We will opt for the latter and because of this we think that the second half will yield more goals than the first. For their to be over 1.5 goals the odds return 6/4 which we think is a pretty good price.
