Newcastle vs Man City: Top free betting tips
Newcastle play their first home game of 2024 on Saturday evening when they welcome Man City to St James' Park. Can the Magpies put a dent into the momentum that City are beginning to gain or will Guardiola's men make light work of them? Our Newcastle vs Man City prediction is for City to flex their muscles at a tough away ground to send a clear message to their rivals that they are back to their best.
Match result prediction: Man City to win
Despite a stuttering first half of the season, neither Liverpool nor Arsenal could put enough results together to make things difficult for City. The Blues are a mere five points behind leaders, Liverpool, with a game in hand and are already showing signs that they are going to go on one of their famous winning runs. They have won their last five matches in all competitions and we think they'll make it six on Saturday.
Total goals prediction: Over 2.5 goals
Last season, this fixture produced one of the most thrilling games of the season – a 3-3 draw that saw both teams come from behind on separate occasions. Newcastle have been poor of late at the back but have still managed to score their fare share of goals while Man City could pair Kevin de Bruyne with Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku for the first time ever on Saturday which is bound to produce goals.
Correct score prediction: Newcastle 1-3 Man City
Newcastle are in a very fragile place right now and their FA Cup win over Sunderland is unlikely to have changed all that much. They've lost their last three Premier League matches which makes the visit of Man City come at the worst possible time for the Magpies. City's winning run needs a big scalp to truly scare Liverpool and Arsenal and we think that'll come on Saturday.
Newcastle vs Man City team news
Newcastle predicted lineup vs Man City
Newcastle's injury problems have been well-documented this season and they are without ten first-team players on Saturday. Joelinton is the latest player to be ruled out after the Brazilian picked up a thigh injury against Sunderland at the weekend which means Lewis Miley will get another chance from the start in midfield. At the back, Howe will be able to count on his first choice back four in a rare treat for the ex-Bournemouth boss.
Dubravka – Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn – Miley, Guimaraes, Longstaff – Almiron, Isak, Gordon
Man City predicted lineup vs Newcastle
Man City are certain to be without John Stones and Bernardo Silva on Saturday but there is a chance that Jeremy Doku and Kevin de Bruyne are ready to start the match after returning from injury off the bench last weekend. Erling Haaland has a chance of starting, too, although the Norweigan is more likely to start on the bench which will mean Julian Alvarez will spearhead the City attack.
Ederson – Walker, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol – Rodri, Kovacic, De Bruyne – Foden, Alvarez, Doku

How far will Man City fans travel to St James' Park?
Despite both clubs being based in the north of England, the journey is quite a lengthy one for Man City with a total distance of 144 miles. By car or coach, it will take the travelling Blues around three hours to get to the stadium from Manchester while the trip via train will take a similar length of time. The away City fans will need to get a train from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield before swapping on to a direct service to Newcastle. From there, the stadium is a walking distance away.
