Middlesbrough vs Reading: Top Free Betting Tips
Third-placed Middlesbrough take on the challenge of struggling Reading in Round 35 of the EFL Championship. Both sides are in dire need of the points on offer but for very different reasons.
Contents
Match Result Prediction: Middlesbrough to Win
Boro were dealt a blow as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Brom. All is not lost and they will want to get back to winning ways to stave off playoff contenders. They will be confident at the Riverside Stadium, winning their last six outings there. Against Reading, they will be more hopeful as they are undefeated against them in six meetings at this venue, winning on five occasions and drawing once.
Total Goals Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals
Boro has marched to their lofty position not based on their defensive prowess but their ability to score goals and this will be on show in this meeting as well. This is evidenced by the fact that they have only kept four clean sheets this campaign and have the worst goals conceded statistic in the top half of the table. The 56 goals they have conceded showcase their ability to score. Four of their last five matches have finished with Over 2.5 goals while the tally stands at three for the visiting Royals.
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 to Middlesbrough
Michael Carrick's men have impressed in recent weeks with 12 goals scored in their last five outings, the most in the Championship in the period. Reading's statistics are respectable at 7 goals scored and they will back themselves to trouble the Boro defence. Given their respective form, a 2-1 result in favour of the hosts is the most likely situation.
Middlesbrough vs Reading: Form, Recent Games, and News
Middlesbrough Preview
Defeat to West Brom jolted Middlesborough's automatic qualification hopes. With Sheffield United trying to keep pace with Burnley, Boro finds themselves trailing them by seven points. They do not have much wiggle room with four teams within touching distance of their points tally. The onus remains on Chuba Akpm and co to deliver the goals while Carrick finds a solution to their defensive issues.
They will need a better result than their 2-0 defeat to West Brom in their last outing. While their defence continued to keep pace with their past performances by conceding readily, the attacking unit failed to deliver. Carrick needs to address their issues at the back if we want to continue their push for an automatic qualifying slot. With Sheffield United showing signs of cracks, they will get opportunities down the road but the question remains whether they can keep rivals at bay to realize this ambition.
Reading Preview
Tom Ince is reliving his best days on the football pitch under his father's guidance. The same cannot be said about Reading, who are unsure about their fortunes as they sit in the middle of the pack. A late charge for the playoff slots looks unlikely but cannot be ruled out. They will want to build on their recent run of two wins from three matches but their optimism will be curtailed by the memories of the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff in the middle of February.
A result akin to their 3-1 demolishing of Blackpool will be welcomed by the Royals fans. Ince was their saviour with a 12th-minute opener. Andy Carroll doubled their lead with Ince returning to the scoring charts to make the result beyond doubt. They did lose their focus in their dying minutes as Sonny Carey was allowed to hit the back of the net in the fourth minute of added time. A similar mistake against Boro will be far more consequential and Reading will have to give a better account of themselves.
