Sydney FC to Win

The Sky Blues continued their charge on the points table with a well-deserved victory over Wester United on the road. They now turn their attention towards A-League strugglers, Melbourne Victory. The visitors have struggled for form in the current campaign, their inability to score resulting in a five-match winless streak. The odds and circumstances are in Sydney's favour, who return to the comforts of home surroundings after three matches on the road.

Total Goals: Over 2.5

Steve Corica has turned Sydney into reliable scorers, troubling all and sundry alike. While Melbourne Victory cannot make the same claims, their appalling defensive record of 55 goals conceded in 22 outings, has ensured there are goals glory in fixtures they are involved in. The prolific nature of the Sky Blues and Victory's hapless defending, provide the perfect ingredients for a high-scoring fixture.

Both Teams to Score: Yes

In their last ten competitive outings, Sydney have been kept quiet once. Adelaide United have the honours of this feat, shutting down Corica's men in a low scoring fixture. While Melbourne have struggled to come up with the good when called upon, they have started to score with more frequency. The Victory attackers got past the defences of Macarthur and Perth Glory and should have enough in the tank to get on the scoreboard against the Sky Blues.

Sydney vs Melbourne Victory: Team News and Match Preview

Sydney FC

Heading into the third and final quarter of A-League fixtures, the race for playoff qualifiers is heating up. Barring Melbourne City, who have the top spot in their firm grasp, the trailing four sides in the top four all registered impressive victories. Sydney's recent form has seen them give up the second place and they need to regain their placement or else risk the dangerous route to the A-League Semi-Finals. Veteran forward Adam Le Fondre returned to the first-team fold after four fixtures. He scored the only goal of the game in his 28-minute cameo,  giving Bobo and co. a warning that he still wants the first-team slot for himself.

Melbourne Victory

After giving the fans a flicker of hope with two wins and three matches, Melbourne Victory have again resumed their winless streak. With a point to show for from their last five fixtures, they continue to be comfortable at the bottom of the table alongside Newcastle Jets. While their defence continues to let them down, Victory can be pleased with the improved showings from their forward lineup. They have now scored in four successive fixtures, their best run throughout the 2020/21 A-League campaign. While the supporting cast has picked up the pace, top scorer and creative dynamo Jake Brimmer continues to struggle.
