Tranmere to Win
Promotion hopefuls Tranmere have emerged from their tricky early-season form and Rovers have collected an impressive ten points from the last 15 on offer in League Two. Micky Mellon’s charges should be able to add to their haul on Friday evening against a Colchester side that has won just twice in nine attempts in England’s fourth tier since the summer. Rovers have triumphed in each of their last three matches at Prenton Park and they can continue their streak this week.
Under 2.5 Goals
Tranmere’s league fixtures have been remarkably low on goals this season however, and we recommend backing under 2.5 goals to be scored again when they host Colchester on Friday. Nine of Rovers’ ten League Two assignments this term have produced two or fewer goals and they hold the division’s best defensive record so far having conceded just four times overall. Their rock-solid defence should ensure that the final score is a modest one again at Prenton Park.
Both Teams to Score – No
Tranmere have kept more clean sheets than any other side in League Two this season, claiming six shutouts in ten fixtures in the division in total since the campaign got underway. Colchester meanwhile, have failed to score in three league fixtures on their spin and their misfiring forwards should struggle to make an impact again against League Two’s most watertight rearguard. With that considered, we recommend backing both teams not to score on Friday.
Tranmere vs Colchester: Match Preview
Tranmere Team News
Goalkeeper Scott Davies is still out injured for Tranmere, while first-choice stopper Joe Murphy is rated as doubtful again. If both players miss out, Ross Doohan will continue between the sticks. Callum MacDonald is available again having served his one-match suspension against Crawley last weekend. Rovers claimed a 2-1 win over Town thanks to an unlikely brace from defender Peter Clarke.
Colchester Team News
Defensive duo Miles Welch-Hayes and Harry Beadle missed Colchester's defeat at home to Salford on Saturday and both players could sit out United's trip to play Tranmere. The U's are down to 18th position in League Two following a poor run of two defeats and a draw in their last three runouts. Only three clubs have scored fewer goals than Colchester so far this term.
