BMO Field is a sports stadium located in Toronto, Canada, that opened in 2007. Originally, it was built specifically to be a football stadium for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), but it has since been renovated to make it usable as an American Football stadium for the Toronto Argonauts.

The stadium is nice and compact and isn’t an all-singing, all-dancing arena like many of the other new builds that have gone up in the USA and Canada since the turn of the century.

The relatively small nature of the stadium makes it fan-friendly – all seats in the stadium are close to the pitch, and there are no restricted views. Additionally, the acoustics inside the place are excellent, which helps boost the atmosphere.

Away fans are generally very complimentary about the stadium. These supporters are put in section 2018 in the upper tier of the east stand, which is at one end of BMO Field.

The stadium is easy to get to, and the facilities in and around it are more than adequate.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will bring thousands of visitors to Toronto’s BMO Field, which is set to host six group-stage matches throughout the tournament. These games are as follows:

  • Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina: Friday, 12 June – Group B
  • Ghana vs Panama: Wednesday, 17 June – Group L
  • Germany vs Ivory Coast: Saturday, 20 June – Group E
  • Panama vs Croatia: Tuesday, 23 June – Group L
  • Senegal vs Iraq: Friday, 26 June – Group I
  • Croatia vs Portugal (Round of 32): Thursday, 2 July

BMO Field’s $146m upgrades for 2026 World Cup

In preparation for the World Cup, BMO Field underwent significant enhancement and redevelopment, funded by $123m of investment from the city of Toronto, as well as $23m from MLSE.

The largest-scale work on the stadium was the addition of 17,756 temporary seats — approximately 10,000 in the north grandstand and 7,000 in the south grandstand — bringing total capacity to 45,736.

Alongside the expanded capacity, the dressing rooms and broadcast infrastructure at the ground have been revamped, while upgrades to the Wi-Fi service, new LED screens and lights, and a number of new food and drink outlets will bolster the fan experience on matchdays.

New dugouts were also built, and the pitch itself was given attention to bring it up to FIFA’s required standards.

The stadium isn’t the most glamorous in the USA, but there have still been plenty of celebrity sightings here, particularly when Lionel Messi is in town with his Inter Miami teammates. Some of the most famous people to be spotted at BMO Field include:

  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • Gerard Butler
  • Owen Wilson
  • Selena Gomez
  • Prince Harry

The following are some of the popular Toronto F.C. that fans of the club often sing in both home and away matches.

  • We Love You chant
  • Oh, When the Reds
  • Hey TFC
  • When I was A Boy
  • Oh Toronto

Fans without match tickets need not miss out. Toronto’s official FIFA Fan Festival runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026 at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway (250 Fort York Blvd, Toronto, ON M5V 3K9), a short walk from the stadium and a stone’s throw from the CN Tower.

The festival spans 22 event days and holds up to 20,000 fans per session.
General admission is free, though tickets must be reserved in advance through Ticketmaster.

Premium packages offering private viewing decks, expedited entry, and upgraded viewing areas are available to purchase.

Expect live match broadcasts on giant screens, concerts, food vendors, and cultural programming reflecting Toronto’s “The World in a City” theme. Performers confirmed for the festival include Shawn Desman, Walk Off the Earth, and Murda Beatz.

BMO Field itself features a number of food and drink outlets throughout the ground. Real Sports at the Game can be found at the top of section 106, and King Club at the top of section 107.

It also plays host to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, as well as staging music concerts. It cost $62.9m to build, and was funded by a public partnership between Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. and three levels of government. The naming rights are owned by the Bank of Montreal, commonly branded as BMO.

Since opening in 2007, BMO Field has hosted several major events, the first of which was the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. It has also become the home venue for Canada’s national rugby team, as well as hosting various lacrosse and hockey matches.
