The stand’s close proximity to the pitch means that fans should enjoy a great atmosphere in the old-school ground, although they may be held back for a period of time after the full-time whistle, depending on the guidance from the local authorities.

Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps undergoing renovation

In April 2026, ici reported that Auxerre had entered a key phase in the transformation of their beloved stadium. The plan is to add 2,500 seats, around 1,400 for the general public and 1,100 for partners and businesses.

The club are also building two new VIP lounges and a 200-seat auditorium, with all of the work expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Auxerre improve sound system and lighting

As per ici in June 2026, Auxerre are working on improving the stadium’s sound system and lighting as part of the improvement works going on at the stadium.

The club are installing a modern sound system that will broadcast ambient sounds, emergency sounds and messages.

Auxerre are also replacing the four mast floodlights with state-of-the-art lighting, with the installation expected to be completed by the end of July.

Below are some of the chants that Auxerre have sung in support of their beloved club:

  • Auxerre Allez
  • Hey AJ Auxerre
  • Tout Le Stade Qui Va S’Enflammer
  • Auxerrois Allez Allez Allez

Like many clubs around the world, Auxerre have used Tifos to mark important games and occasions.

In December 2025, Auxerre fans unveiled a Tifo celebrating the club’s 120th anniversary.

The Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps is separated into four stands, North, East, South and West.

Tribune Leclerc

Auxerre’s Ultras are housed behind the goal in this part of the ground, helping make it the loudest and most vocal area of the stadium on matchdays.

Tribune Vaux

At the opposite end of the stadium, Tribune Vaux holds both home and away fans.

Tribune Honneur

The main grandstand is on the west side of the stadium. This is where the corporate hospitality and VIP boxes are located.

Tribune Societe Generale

Situated opposite the Tribune Honnuer, the Tribune Societe Generale runs along the side of the pitch, housing around 3,300 seats.

Le Pub (Le Pub, 3 Rue Camille Desmoulins, 89000)

Around a half-hour walk from the ground, Le Pub is a great spot for those interested in tasting a selection of Scottish whiskies and rums.

L’essentiel cocktail bar Auxerre (11 Pl. Charles Lepère, 89000)

If you would rather enjoy a cocktail before or after the game, then L’essentiel cocktail bar Auxerre may be the place for you, offering a great atmosphere with live DJs.

Levrette Cafe (83 Av. Yver, 89000)

Located on the banks of the Yonne River, Levrette Cafe is a popular destination for tourists in the city. It is also just a few meters away from the stadium, and as the cafe states on its website, it is the perfect spot to ‘extend the post-match celebrations’.

There are food and drink stands around the concourses for fans to keep themselves refreshed on matchday.

Auxerre have opened a new bar next to the stadium, although as it stands, it looks as if it will only be open during the summer.

Meanwhile, Auxerre offers VIP guests the chance to enjoy a refined selection of hot and cold dishes, as well as an alcoholic and non-alcoholic premium drinks selection.

Other time slots are available during school holidays.

The prices for the tours are detailed below:

Adults: from €14

Students: from €10

Children: from €7

Saint-Germain Abbey

As a key heritage site, Saint-Germain Abbey is a must-see spot for those visiting the city. The abbey, which was founded by Queen Clotilde in the 5th century, features Carolingian crypts of the 9th century, a chapter room from the 12th century, the cellar from the 14th century and the classical style cloister was rebuilt in the 17th century.

It is free for visitors to undertake a self-guided tour of the abbey and museum. Meanwhile, a guided tour of the crypt will cost €8 per person and a “words of the monks” guided tour will cost €10 per person.

The Clock Tower

The clock tower is another historical site in Auxerre, designed with a unique feature that its two lunar hands trail behind its solar hand by about 45 minutes. The hands align at midnight during the full moon and at noon during the new moon.

Saint-Etienne Cathedral

The Cathedral has just one tower and features stained glass windows from the 15th and 16th centuries. Visitors can look inside the Cathedral free of charge, while it costs €3,50 to visit the crypt and €5 to visit the crypt and treasury.

The crypt houses a rare painting of Christ on horseback, and the Treasury features The Deposition from the Cross by Luca Penni.

The stadium opened in 1918 after Father Ernest-Théodore Valentin Deschamps purchased the first plots of land along the Yonne River. In truth, the title of a stadium was perhaps a stretch for a considerable period of time, as even by the 1950s, it only had one stand that could hold up to 200 spectators.

Eventually, Auxerre built stands behind the goals in the 1980s, the same decade that saw the redevelopment of the main side stand. Work has continued over the years to bring the stadium up to modern-day standards.

The stadium has played host to both the French men’s and women’s teams. The men’s team thrashed Azerbaijan in European Championship qualifying in September 1995 and edged out Georgia by a 1-0 scoreline as part of their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Meanwhile, the women’s national team beat Canada and Japan in friendlies in 2016 and 2019, respectively, before they returned to the venue in April 2026 for a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying.

Troyes

Auxerre share a rivalry with ESTAC Troyes, with 77km separating the two clubs. However, there is some debate about whether it falls into the category of a derby.

Les Ajaistes have fared well in recent encounters, having won five of their previous seven meetings, including each of their last three.

The two sides will get the chance to face off in the 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign after Troyes won promotion from the second tier.

Dijon FCO

Auxerre also view fellow Burgundy club Dijon as one of their rivals. However, it is seen more as a friendly rivalry, partly due to the fact there is little history between the two sides.

The first meeting between the two clubs took place in December 2011 when Auxerre fought back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw.

Auxerre haved played a total of 14 matches against Dijon, winning seven, drawing four and losing three.
