Sir Halley Stewart Field is a charming smaller ground that features one covered stand as well as plenty of standing room for spectators.
Alongside offering protection from the elements, the single stand offers fans good views of the action given it sits on a raised platform, and the matchday crowd can certainly get an atmosphere going despite the limited numbers thanks to a drum in the home end.
Sir Halley Stewart Field underwent significant refurbishments in the summer of 2025, including the installation of a new pitch and new changing rooms, as well as upgrades to the floodlights, clubhouse and hospitality lounge.
Spalding United new pitch installed
After a delay that saw Spalding United’s opening home fixtures of the 2025-26 season played on the road instead, the installation of the club’s new 3G playing surface was finally finished in August 2025.
The upgrades to United’s facilities were also completed, and are available for hire for corporate events, parties and community sports activities.
Spalding United Announce £1 Million Investment in Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field
Spalding United secured £1m of private investment in order to transform the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, money that will go towards the installation of a new artificial 3G playing surface, as well as the construction of a new stand for supporters.
Speaking on the project, Andrew Killingsworth, owner of Spalding United, said:
“This is a pivotal moment for Spalding United. We’re not only elevating our facilities to support our promotion ambitions but also laying the groundwork for a sustainable future. This investment is a gift to the club, our supporters, and the wider community.
“Providing our first team with an elite artificial playing surface we feel will enhance our on-pitch performances and bolster our player recruitment and retention. It’s a comprehensive step forward for the club.”
The 3G pitch will be available for hire by the community, generating revenue for the club that will go towards its long-term sustainability.

Thankfully, Sir Halley Stewart Field is situated close to Spalding town centre, and is easily accessible by public transport.
By Bus
The venue is located opposite from Spalding Bus Station (off Winfrey Avenue), which boasts extensive links to the surrounding areas. The B3, B3X, B9, B13, G76, 37, X12, 43, 301, 505, 505A, 505B, IT1 and IT2 lines all stop at this station.
By Train
Spalding Railway Station (off King’s Road) is also close to the ground, and is serviced by the East Midlands Railway.
Getting off the train, exit the station and walk across to the Sainsbury’s. Keeping the shop on your right, go past the Wilkinsons and Argos, from where you will spot a B&Q – the Sir Halley Stewart Field is to the left of the B&Q.
Parking
A small number of free parking spots can be found on nearby (limited to three hours during peak times). Alternatively, a number of Pay & Display facilities can be found opposite the ground.
However, parking after 21:30pm is limited to 10 minutes, and any longer will see you pick up a fine – this could potentially be a major issue for evening games.
Sir Halley Stewart Field features accessible parking, accessible toilets, wheelchair accessible spaces for spectators, accessible doorways and an accessible reception area.
