Brighton and Hove Albion will relocate the Amex Stadium away section in a new £40m stadium redevelopment.
There have been rumours for a little while now that the Amex Stadium was set to get improvements, and now we have some details about it. While not a significant shift, the new changes will move the away section to a new tier.
The new development will also increase the capacity by 800, increasing the total to 32,500. The project will also see a new fan zone built outside the stadium called The Terrace.
Amex stadium redevelopment moves forward
Brighton will now begin a major redevelopment in three phases, starting with a refurbishment of the club store and Dick's Bar following the Arsenal match on 4 January, with a temporary store opening on 15 January. The new store will span two levels at the Amex Stadium and better accommodate matchday demand, while the club museum will relocate to the city centre in the 2026/27 season.
Phase three will increase the Amex capacity to 32,500 by introducing an additional 1901 Club area by the 2026/27 season and will provide a pub-like atmosphere for home fans. Other updates include relocating the north stand control box, repositioning the big screen, introducing safe standing in 2025, and moving away supporters to the southwest corner in 2027.
New The Terrace fan zone to open
The first phase of the redevelopment is The Terrace, which will open in spring and will be the new fan zone at the Amex Stadium. This fan zone will be a brand-new, pre and post-match sports bar experience, with capacity for up to 1000 fans in the colder months and the ability to expand outdoors and cater for up to 2000 in warmer months. Thus, it will be the largest in the Premier League.
Deputy chairman and chief executive Paul Barber of Brighton had this to say, “I know our fans are looking forward to the opening of the new fan zone and are extremely excited to see these plans come to life. It is another incredibly generous investment by our chairman Tony Bloom. The Terrace will provide a brilliant addition to the matchday experience, as a place to meet friends before and after matches, watch live sport in a modern space, and enjoy a wide variety of food and drink offerings. We will also be looking to utilise The Terrace for a range of different events and occasions in between matches too, providing a fantastic new venue for fans, the community and visitors to the city to enjoy.”
The club also confirmed that plans are in place for a permanent site for a new purpose-built women's stadium in Brighton.
FGG says: Brighton move into the modern era
Brighton's rise has been slow, but methodical since they arrived in the Premier League. But the club has gone about its business in a good way and has become one of the staple sides of the Premier League. Now, plans are in place for improvements to the Amex, as the club looks to fit in with the elite clubs in the league. With the likelihood of European football becoming a mainstay at the club in future, Brighton will need to take advantage of every small gain they can as they look to continue to build the club forward.
