On Wednesday, 29 January, Girona will welcome Arsenal to the Estadi Montilivi as part of the final round of Champions League league phase fixtures.

The visitors come into the match all but certain of a place in the top eight but a point would mathematically ensure that nobody can catch them.

Girona, meanwhile, come into the match aware that this will be their final outing in the Champions League this season.

If you are going to be one of the Arsenal fans in Girona on matchday, here is everything you need to know ahead of your trip.

How many Arsenal fans are going to Girona?

The Estadi Montilivi is one of the smallest stadiums to have ever been used in the Champions League proper with a capacity of just 14,625 so Arsenal haven't been given a large allocation by any means.

The Gunners have been handed 500 tickets for the match, the smallest allocation of their campaign so far. These tickets were all snapped up very quickly by supporters with the most Arsenal loyalty points but more ticketless Arsenal fans are expected to travel over.

After being handed such a small allocation, it's easy to understand why it was touch and go whether Girona would even be able to play their Champions League home matches at the Montilivi this season. However, after a long process, the Estadi Montilivi was approved by UEFA.

Interestingly, Arsenal have been allocated six more tickets than Liverpool got here when the two sides met earlier in the campaign.

Where will Arsenal fans sit at Estadi Montilivi?

The Girona away section is incredibly modest, which goes without saying when you consider the allocation. The away end is situated in the corner between the Preferent Stand and the Gold Nord Stand and spans just one tier.

The away end is also open to the elements so the travelling Gunners will be hoping that the famous Catalonia weather lives up to its reputation.

Where to eat & drink for Liverpool fans in Girona?

The local area around the Estadi Montilivi isn't packed with bars and restaurants but if you go a little further afield to the city centre, then you will be able to explore a number of different options. Three of our suggestions in Girona centre are:

  • McKiernans – Rambla de la Llibertat, 32, 17004 Girona, Spain
  • Bar Oxford – Carrer del Riu Llierca, 6, 17003 Girona, Spain
  • Bar Duran – Rambla de la Llibertat, 10, 17004 Girona, Spain

How to get to Estadi Montilivi for Arsenal fans in Girona

If the weather holds up then the nicest, cheapest and perhaps most straightforward way to get to the stadium is to walk from the city centre. The walk is around 2.5km away which equates to around 40 minutes in walking time but the climate is warm in Girona and the walk is pleasant so if you are able, then go for this method.

If you don't want to or can't walk to the stadium then there are of course other ways. Bus services run regularly from the train station in the city centre to the stadium with two buses usually operating this route each hour.

The L8 service is what you will be looking out for and you will need to depart at UDG Montilivi. Once you get off here, the stadium is just a five-minute walk away.
