The fixture was also a landmark occasion for England captain Harry Kane, who bagged a brace after winning his 125th cap to equal Peter Shilton's appearance record.
France's dramatic 4-1 comeback victory over Belgium attracted the second-largest crowd, with 75,389 fans at the Stade de France. Belgium led through Dodi Lukebakio before second-half substitutes Desire Doue, Rayan Cherki and Michael Olise helped Zinedine Zidane pick up his first home win as France coach.
Romania's match against Sweden ranked third, drawing 49,426 fans to the Arena Nationala in Bucharest as Graham Potter's side secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Viktor Gyokeres.
