Birmingham City have unveiled plans for a new 62,000 capacity stadium as part of a multi-billion pound redevelopment in the city.

The club took to X to reveal rendered proposals for a new home in the Midlands, featuring several striking visual features.

Stunning new home proposed for the Blues

Birmingham City revealed on X on November 20, 2025 that the club had completed designs for a new stadium in partnership with Heatherwick Studio and MANICA Architecture.

Blues chairman Tom Wagner revealed the club's ambitious plans in October, with ownership, who took the reins in July 2023, keen to target expansion and and modernisation in a departure from St Andrews @ Knightshead Park – their home since 1906.

The new plans come as part of a proposed major redevelopment in Birmingham, with the Birmingham City Powerhouse set to be visible from 40 miles away.

On the reveal, Wagner told guests: “The stadium draws upon the proud heritage of the West Midlands – a heritage of industry, ingenuity and growth.”

Plans reveal a striking design involving 12 chimneys surrounding the stadium, reflecting the brickwork which previously occupied the site, as well as a steep bowl design on its interior, designed to enhance the matchday experience and atmosphere.

Thomas Heatherwick, founder and design director of Heatherwick Studio, stated on the design of the stadium: “Too often, stadiums feel like spaceships that could have landed anywhere, sterilising the surrounding area. This stadium grows from Birmingham itself – from its brickworks, its thousand trades, and the craft at its core.

“It's also a wholehearted place for the community. The stadium will truly come alive where it meets the ground; a place for play, gathering, and everyday life.”

Timeline of Birmingham City's stadium move

Birmingham City acquired the site, which will host the new stadium and wider redevelopment programme fronted by chairman Tom Wagner, in 2024, with revealed plans being another step towards the Blues' switch.

The Midlands club stated its ambition to move into the new site in time for the 2030-31 football season, giving them just under five years remaining at St Andrews @ Knightshead Park, a stay which would take their residency at the historic ground to the 125-year mark.

FGG Says: More exciting times ahead for Birmingham City

Following the acquisition of Birmingham City by Shelby Companies Limited and Knighthead Capital, fronted by Tom Wagner, in 2023, signs have been almost entirely encouraging for the club's future.

The Blues cruised to promotion from League One at the first time of asking last year and are settling into life back in the Championship in the 2025-26 season under the management of Chris Davies.

The stadium proposals highlight the new ownership's commitment to growing and developing the club for the benefit of supporters, who will hope the exciting new plans represent an evolution on their historic and iconic St Andrews home.
