Brighton & Hove Albion have taken a major step towards reshaping the future of women's football infrastructure with the reveal of ambitious new stadium plans.

The project, described as a ‘first' of its kind in Europe, signals a bold shift in how clubs are beginning to think about long-term growth, fan experience and the wider game.

Brighton to build new 10,000-seat stadium as part of long-term vision

The Seagulls have confirmed plans to build a brand-new 10,000-seat stadium next to the American Express Stadium, with work now underway on a formal planning application.

The venue will be constructed at Bennett’s Field – a site acquired in 2025 – and will be physically linked to the Amex via a new bridge, allowing shared infrastructure and a seamless matchday experience across the wider complex.

Designed as a fully bespoke, all-seater stadium, the project will include modern performance facilities, enhanced accessibility, underground parking and fan-focused concourses tailored to a new generation of supporters.

The club are targeting an opening date of the 2030/31 season, subject to approval from local authorities, with the development forming a key pillar of their wider long-term strategy.

It will become only the third stadium in the world dedicated solely to the women's game.

FGG says: Brighton's plans could set a benchmark in women's football

This is genuinely groundbreaking news.

For years, football infrastructure has largely followed the same template, particularly in the women's game, where teams often use other teams' grounds, but this feels like a conscious break from that, with a venue designed for purpose rather than compromise.

Brighton have consistently been one of the smartest-run clubs in England, and this is another example of forward-thinking leadership.

If successful, this could set a new benchmark across Europe.

Other clubs will be watching closely because this isn’t just a stadium, but more a statement about the future direction of the women's game.
