Chelsea head into the 2026-27 season under new management, with Xabi Alonso now in the Stamford Bridge hotseat on a four-year contract after taking over from July 1.

The Spaniard arrives with a clear brief from BlueCo: fewer speculative teenage punts, more Premier League-proven experience, and a squad capable of competing for major honours rather than simply topping up sell-on value.

The rebuild is already underway. Marco Palestra has become the club’s first signing of the summer, joining permanently from Atalanta on a contract through to 2033, while academy forward Josh Acheampong and defender David Osagie have both signed new long-term deals.

It hasn’t all been arrivals, though. Marc Cucurella has completed a move to Real Madrid after four trophy-laden seasons in west London, and winger Tyrique George has joined Everton in a reported £24m deal.

Alonso is reportedly determined to add serious spine to the squad before the campaign begins. Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is said to be his top target up front, while AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande have both been strongly linked as the club looks to bring in composed, experienced faces rather than more developmental prospects.

Amid all that business, preparations continue for a pre-season tour that takes Chelsea east for the first time this decade, with two matches in Sydney as part of the Sydney Super Cup, followed by a first visit to Hong Kong since 2011.

For supporters planning to attend, Football Ground Guide has everything you need to know about tickets for the Sydney and Hong Kong legs of Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
