Chelsea supporters found an unusual way to make their feelings clear before their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.
And it quickly went viral.
Chelsea fans protested against BlueCo before Man Utd clash at Stamford Bridge
A group of Chelsea fans gathered outside Stamford Bridge ahead of the game against Man Utd to protest against the club’s owners, BlueCo.
But rather than banners alone, several supporters were seen holding carrots while chanting against the ownership.
The fans sang: “We don’t care about Clearlake, they don’t care about us. All we care about is Chelsea FC.”
The carrots appeared to be a reference to supporters feeling that promises have been ‘dangled' in front of them by BlueCo and Clearlake Capital without being delivered.
The protest came after growing frustration with the direction of the club under BlueCo, with many fans unhappy at Chelsea’s performances, recruitment strategy and the overall running of the club.
The carrot protest was only one part of a wider demonstration, with Chelsea supporters also joining fans from sister club Strasbourg in a larger “BlueCo Out” march before kick-off.
That protest featured flags, flares and chants calling for change at the top of the club.
FGG says: A bizarre sight but Chelsea protest has done its job
There is no doubt that the carrot protest looked bizarre.
Some rival fans mocked it online, while even plenty of Chelsea supporters seemed unsure what to make of it.
But in a strange way, it has achieved exactly what the protesters wanted.
People are talking about it, sharing it and discussing why Chelsea fans are so frustrated with the ownership.
The message may have been delivered in an unusual way, but it reflects the growing feeling among sections of the fanbase that patience with BlueCo is starting to run out.
