On February 13, the Argentine Football Association announced on X/Twitter that the 2024 Copa Libertadores final will be held in Buenos Aires.
It is the first time a single leg final will be played in Argentina since it replaced the two-legged home and away format in 2019.
Venue Undecided for 2024 Copa Libertadores Final
The venue has not been specified yet. There are 18 football stadiums in Buenos Aires, including River Plate’s home stadium, Más Monumental. This stadium is the largest in Argentina, with a capacity of 84,000 due to its expansion in 2023.
River Plate President, Jorge Brito said: “I’d love to host the 2024 final here…This is the best stadium in South America. Argentina deserves it.”
Other contenders to host the final include San Lorenzo de Almagro, Estudiantes de La Plata, Rosario Central, Talleres de Córdoba, and Godoy Cruz.
Brazilian Dominance
A Brazilian club has won the competition every year since 2019. River Plate were the last Argentine club to win the title, as they lifted their fourth Copa Libertadores in 2018 against Boca Juniors.
The second leg of this contest was played at the Santiago Bernabéu due to fan violence and security concerns.
