Daugavas Stadion away section: Guide for England fans in Latvia

England will take on Latvia in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, 14 October, in a match that should see England officially book their place at the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico and the USA next summer.

There is expected to be a large English presence in Riga for the match, and if you are one of these fans making the trip over to the Latvian capital, then here is everything you need to know about the Daugavas Stadion away section and what to expect in general in Riga.

Matchday – How to get to the stadium

Getting to the Daugavas Stadion isn't overly difficult, and walking is even an option, as it is only roughly around 3km from the city centre, which equates to 40-45 minutes walking time.

The public transport options aren't limited, either. The quickest and most logical option is to take the city's trolley bus service to Grizinklans. If using this method, make sure you get on trolley number 13, and this passes through Riga Stacijas Laukums, which is one of the most central stops in Riga.

Alternatively, there are some normal bus services that can take you to the stadium from the centre of Riga, including services 3, 51 and 52

Where is the Daugavas Stadion away section?

England fans will be located behind one of the goals at the Daugavas Stadion, specifically in stand C. To enter the stadium, England supporters will use blocks C1-C5, and as this stand is being occupied solely by away fans, there should be no interactions with home supporters at the turnstiles or gates.

What is the Daugavas Stadion away section like?

The Daugavas Stadion, in general, is an unusual football stadium, as it only has three stands (two ends and one main stand). As a result, one side of the pitch is completely empty. None of the three existing stands connect to each other, either, and there is a running track that wraps around the pitch, so the away section feels distant from the pitch and the fans in the other stands.

As a result, it can be challenging to create a decent atmosphere in the away section here, even if the allocation is typically big.

Best pubs in Riga

Even though the stadium isn't ideal, the city of Riga itself couldn't be more perfect for a European away trip. The cost of food and drink is far cheaper than it is in the United Kingdom, and there are plenty of options. Here are bar recommendations:

  • Aussie Backpackers Pub – Valnu iela 43, Centra rajons, Rīga, LV-1050, Latvia
  • Skyline Bar – Elizabetes iela 55, Centra rajons, Rīga, LV-1010, Latvia
  • Duvel's – Meistaru iela 10/12, Centra rajons, Rīga, LV-1050, Latvia

England allocation for Latvia away

There will be a minimum of 2,546 England fans inside the Daugavas Stadion on Tuesday night, after the full allocation of tickets was sold out.

We say minimum, because there is always a chance that some fans will travel over without tickets and buy some in the home end, if they are on offer from touts outside the stadium.
