Dundee police investigation opened after goalkeeper struck by missile in derby

Police have launched an investigation after goalkeeper Owen Goodman was struck by a missile thrown from the crowd during the Dundee derby.

Dundee beat local rivals Dundee United 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership last Saturday thanks to goals from Drey Wright and Owen Bevan.

However, there was an incident during the game where Goodman was hit by a projectile from the crowd.

Goodman is on loan at Dundee from Crystal Palace and referee David Dickinson was shown on the TV broadcast picking up the missile.

Police interviewed Goodman after the game and they are appealing for more information about the incident.

Constable Matthew Boath said: “Thankfully the man was not injured, however this type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“An investigation is ongoing and are working closely with both clubs to identify the person responsible.

“I urge anyone at the game who witnessed the incident and can assist in our inquiries to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2015 of 22 August 2026.”

It is not the first time an incident like this has happened at Dundee United's Tannadice Park, with Dundee striker Simon Murray getting struck by a vape that was thrown from the crowd during a derby match back in March.

“That’s not tolerated from anyone, it shouldn’t be, but I don’t know, hopefully that gets dealt with,” Murray said after the game. “I don’t know what to say on that. Obviously, it’s shocking that you have to put up with that.”
