The official handover of Bramley-Moore Dock has now taken place, and after three and a half years, Everton now controls the new stadium.
Last week, the Friedkin Group's takeover was confirmed, and now we have confirmation that Everton owns the stadium. While this is just a formality, it does mean Everton can begin using the stadium more as they prepare for the 2025/26 season.
Bramley-Moore Dock officially becomes Everton's
Now that Everton has taken on ownership of Bramley-Moore Dock, the club can look to the future. However, before the first game is played, a number of test events will take place in 2025. While there is no confirmation of what these events are, speculation suggests there could be a few possibilities. A reduced capacity U18/U21 game or an Everton WSL game alongside a concert/musical show have also been rumoured.
Everton's executive chairman Marc Watts said: “I feel privileged to be here today to be part of the handover of this magnificent stadium in this stunning, unrivalled location. It is an illustrious moment in the history of Everton and marks a new era for the club on many levels. The stadium will play a key role in supporting our commercial vision for the club – hosting events and activities all-year round – but first and foremost, I have no doubt that it will be a venue that every Evertonian will be proud to call home.”
Since the new ownership began purchasing the club, it has effectively funded the stadium. Now, the club owns the stadium outright, with no debt, as it turns a key financial corner in 2025.
Everton interim chief executive Colin Chong added: “Our thanks go to Laing O'Rourke, their workforce and extensive supply chain, along with the many people who have helped bring our vision to fruition. Everton's passionate supporters deserve immense praise for investing fully in this journey, right from the initial consultation phases and throughout the three-and-a-half-year build process.”
FGG says: Good times ahead for Everton
“Maximizing the potential of the new stadium through strategic long-term commercial partnerships and events that will significantly benefit the city of Liverpool.“This is one of six key priorities outlined by the new ownership as they take the reins of Everton FC.
The new stadium is set to mark the beginning of a transformative era for Everton FC. The club has overcome most of their PSR issues and is poised to maintain its position in the Premier League this season. The focus now shifts to growth and progress. In the short term, we can anticipate a new manager and fresh talent joining the squad, but all eyes will undoubtedly be on Bramley-Moore Dock as we look forward to the exciting opportunities that the 2025/26 season will bring.
