Everton supporters’ group issue statement ahead of Man Utd clash after deadline day nightmare

Everton supporters have been left frustrated by a transfer window that ended with further departures and a failed late move for Folarin Balogun.

Now, one of the club's major supporters' groups has urged fans to put their anger aside for 90 minutes when Manchester United visit Hill Dickinson Stadium this weekend.

The 1878s have criticised Everton's transfer business in a strongly worded statement, claiming the club has been left short in several key areas following a dramatic final day of the window.

The group highlighted the departures of five more players since David Moyes said on Saturday that Everton could not afford to lose anyone else, while only two additions were made.

Particular concern has been raised over the lack of cover at full-back and the decision to allow Beto to leave for Fiorentina without securing another established striker.

Everton were also left stunned when Balogun turned down a £40 million move to the club at the very last minute, despite the deal having progressed to the point where a deal sheet was in place.

With a proposed loan move for United's Joshua Zirkzee also rejected, Thierno Barry is now the club's only senior striker.

The 1878s said the situation had reinforced their belief that the ambitions of the supporters and club are currently misaligned. The group has also confirmed it will continue to stand down from producing its usual large-scale pre-match displays.

However, despite their anger, the supporters' group made a clear distinction between the transfer strategy and the players who remain at the club.

It urged Everton fans to “get behind our team on the pitch for 90 mins” and said it would fully support any action the wider fanbase chooses to take in response to the transfer window.

The frustration is completely understandable after Everton's late transfer business left obvious gaps in the squad, particularly with just one recognised senior striker remaining.

Toffees supporters have made their feelings clear, but the players now have to deal with the consequences of decisions made above them.

When United arrive at Hill Dickinson Stadium, getting behind those wearing the shirt is probably the most constructive way for fans to turn their anger into something positive.
