Everton have unveiled a new display at Hill Dickinson Stadium celebrating the first 11 Black players to represent the club as part of this year's Black History Month.

The exhibition has been created in partnership with Show Racism The Red Card and will remain on display at the stadium throughout October.

The display, unveiled at the Toffees' 52,769-capacity home, features the stories of the club's first 11 Black men's players, and will be visible to supporters and visitors throughout Black History Month.

The club worked with the Everton FC Heritage Society to research the players featured, with their careers now displayed on banners in the Trinity Place Bar.

The XI includes Mike Trebilcock, Cliff Marshall, Daniel Amokachi, Earl Barrett, Terry Phelan, Danny Cadamarteri, John O'Kane, Olivier Dacourt, Ibrahima Bakayoko, Kevin Campbell and Abel Xavier.

Everton's head of equity and inclusion Ben Osu said the exhibition recognises players who “helped pave the way for future generations”, while also providing an opportunity to celebrate their contribution to the club's history and culture.

The exhibition will also form part of an educational visit for schools connected to Everton in the Community next month.

Show Racism The Red Card said the pilot project has been successful and that it hopes to introduce similar exhibitions across other clubs, allowing more supporters to learn about the histories of Black players.

FGG says: Hill Dickinson Stadium display is an important piece of club history

Moving the exhibition into Everton's new stadium gives supporters an opportunity to learn more about some of the players who helped shape the club's history, rather than simply remembering them through statistics and results.

The inclusion of the display as part of Black History Month also provides a natural opportunity to highlight the barriers some of these players faced while celebrating their contribution to Everton.

With the exhibition also being used for educational visits, it has the potential to introduce these stories to a new generation of Everton supporters and ensure the club's history continues to be recognised at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
