Sheffield Wednesday's transformation of Hillsborough Stadium is continuing, with another prominent reminder of the club's former ownership now being removed.

The Owls have begun taking down the huge old club crest above the South Stand entrance as their new owners continue to make their mark on the stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday remove old crest from Hillsborough Stadium

Work is underway to remove the former Sheffield Wednesday badge positioned above the main reception entrance at the end of the South Stand bridge.

The latest change comes amid a period of significant activity at Hillsborough following the takeover by Arise Capital Partners at the beginning of May.

Signage installed during former owner Dejphon Chansiri's tenure has already been removed from the top of all four stands, while attention has also turned to improving facilities inside the stadium.

The South Stand's 1867 Lounge is being renovated and transformed into ‘Hirsty's Social', while the Quixall Suite is also receiving a makeover as part of plans to create the new ‘Quixall Club'.

Footage shared on social media from Hillsborough has now shown an aerial platform in place as work begins to remove the giant crest from above the South Stand entrance.

Wednesday recently adopted a modernised version of the club's retro owl badge, which is already being used across its website, social media channels and the training wear worn by players and coaching staff during pre-season.

The previous crest has also been removed from other areas of Hillsborough and the club's Middlewood Road training ground as the new ownership continues its wider overhaul.

FGG says: Owls fans will love seeing Hillsborough move on from Chansiri era

For many Wednesday supporters, every visible sign of the club moving on from the ill-fated Chansiri era will be warmly welcomed.

The changes to Hillsborough are about more than simply replacing badges and signs, with improvements to supporter facilities also beginning to take shape.

After everything Owls fans have endured, seeing their home transformed and the club establish a fresh identity under its new ownership will be hugely satisfying.
