Chelsea have been talking about either building a new stadium or expanding Stamford Bridge since almost the minute Todd Boehly became the club's owner in 2022.
However, three-and-a-half years later, the club are reportedly no closer to deciding which route they are going to go down.
On one hand, renovating Stamford Bridge would allow the club to continue playing at their home for 148 years. However, on the other hand, building a brand-new stadium would remove all the logistical and structural issues that make a Stamford Bridge renovation complex.
Chelsea stadium dilemma to have an impact on supporters
While many supporters are happy to simply stay at Stamford Bridge as it is, the longer the Blues remain at the Bridge, the harder it is going to be for the club to keep up with the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool, who have either recently ploughed money into stadium renovation or published their plans to do so.

In an interview with Football Insider, a Senior Lecturer in Sport Business Management at Sheffield Hallam University, Dr Dan Plumley, has speculated that matchgoing supporters could soon be impacted by the lack of clarity on the club's future. He said:
“I mean, it’s a blow in terms of they will be losing a little bit of ground on rivals. It's always a possibility to raise ticket prices because you look at what you are doing with your stadium and how it generates revenue for you.“
There are only a couple of things you can do to increase that. It’s either expand, build a new one, or raise ticket prices, and, of course, raising ticket prices is a thorny issue at the minute across football. So, they would rather not, but it's always a possibility that you have to consider if you're looking at increasing the revnue line.
FGG says: Supporters to bear the brunt once again
Match-going supporters being punished for the misgivings of multi-millionaires is sadly nothing new in modern football, so Dr Plumley's prediction is almost certain to be proven correct in the coming years. The saddest part of all this is that the Chelsea fans who will be forced to put their hands in their pockets are the ones who, if they had it their way, would simply stay put at Stamford Bridge in its current form.
