How Morgan Rogers reacted to Arsenal “big club” chant in Chelsea match

Earlier today, Arsenal welcomed Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium for the most eagerly anticipated match of the new Premier League season so far.

Both sides had a 100% record going into the match, but following a 2-1 home victory, Arsenal retain the bragging rights in London.

An interesting subplot to the match was Morgan Rogers, who reportedly turned down a move to Arsenal this summer in favour of joining Chelsea. The former Villa man was never going to have a quiet game, and opened the scoring within two minutes.

However, it was his reaction to the Arsenal fans that has got tongues wagging in the aftermath of the match.

Rogers responds to Arsenal taunts

After being substituted off in the 87th minute, Rogers was greeted by sarcastic cheers from the Arsenal supporters, who were keen to goad the midfielder over his decision to reject them in favour of Chelsea.

Chants of ‘You should have signed for a big club' echoed around the Emirates Stadium as Rogers made his way to the dugouts, and instead of ignoring them, he put his head up and grinned towards the crowd, which only resulted in louder chants from the Arsenal faithful.

Minutes earlier, Rogers was involved in a physical altercation with Declan Rice, so he did well to keep his cool when he was clearly wound up by how things had gone on the pitch in the 85 minutes that had passed since he opened the scoring early on.

Rogers is unlikely to regret his decision to move to Chelsea this summer. Despite losing, there is plenty of optimism around the club, and there is firm belief that Xabi Alonso is the man to bring the good days back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea did enough this afternoon to suggest they can compete with Arsenal this season, but even if Rogers has to wait a couple of years, he could still get his redemption. He is a player the Gunners would absolutely love to have, and we are already looking forward to the next time he gets the opportunity to face Rice and co.
