A Chelsea supporter has completed a half-marathon by running laps around Stamford Bridge as part of a challenge that he set himself during difficult times in his life.
Benito Mottoh, a steward at Stamford Bridge, was first introduced to Chelsea when he was just eight years old, grieving the death of his mother. The comfort that the club brought him during that time set him up for a life of following and working for the Blues.
It was his passion for Chelsea, combined with his love for running, that saw him undertake the challenge of running laps around Stamford Bridge until he had completed a half-marathon.
The ‘turning point' of his life
After Mottoh's father fell ill, the Chelsea fanatic took up running and began to gain attention on Strava for his runs around London to various football stadiums. It was at that point that he came up with the Stamford Bridge idea. He said:
“When people go through difficult times, it can be tough, and sometimes it can take a negative toll on a person mentally, physically, all types of ways. Losing both my parents, it was kind of a make-or-break situation.”

“But I said to myself: “This is the turning point in my life where I need to make things happen. What are the things I love? How can I combine them both?” I wanted to do something to get my mind off things and keep healthy.”
“Initially, it was supposed to just be a lap around Stamford Bridge, to see how fast I can do it. But because of the love that I have for the club and my love for running, and just to show my gratitude for what they’ve given me, as it felt like a full circle moment for me, being a Chelsea fan and working at the Bridge, I decided to do a half-marathon instead!”
FGG says: Hats off to Mottoh
While running half a marathon is hardly a freakish achievement in this day and age, completing it while running around in a circle is impressive. The lack of mental stimulation involved would have taken its toll at points, so he deserves full credit. Perhaps next he will go for the full marathon.
