Hull City’s stadium situation could be heading for a significant shake-up after owner Acun Ilicali addressed supporters directly about the future of their ground-share with Hull FC.
With tensions growing over finances and pitch conditions, the long-standing arrangement at the MKM Stadium is now under fresh scrutiny.
Acun Ilicali casts doubt over Hull FC future at MKM Stadium
Speaking at a recent fans’ forum, Ilicali admitted Hull FC’s long-term future at the MKM Stadium is now “in trouble”, following what he described as an “important signal” from supporters.
When asked whether they wanted the rugby league side to remain beyond their current lease, which expires in 2027, a clear majority of fans attending indicated they would prefer Hull FC to leave.
The Tigers owner also pointed to financial concerns, claiming the club has historically lost money through the shared arrangement, while also highlighting the condition of the pitch as a major issue. He suggested poor surfaces, particularly in winter, have impacted the team’s ability to play their preferred style of football.
Talks remain ongoing between both clubs, but Ilıcalı has made it clear he believes any future agreement must be “equal and fair”.

FGG says: Hull City fans' frustrations are being heard
Shared stadiums are rarely perfect, and Ilicali’s comments underline the practical challenges, ranging from financial struggles to pitch quality that can directly affect performance on the field.
At the same time, it’s notable that the owner has actively sought fan input and is responding to it. That doesn’t automatically mean change will happen, but it does show a willingness to listen, which supporters often demand.
If Hull City genuinely feel they are losing out, both financially and competitively, then a rethink is understandable but with the stadium historically serving both clubs and the wider community, any decision will need careful handling to avoid wider fallout.
