Nunez has become somewhat of a fan-favourite at Anfield – rival fans poking fun at a struggling player often results in that outcome in football – and he did his reputation no harm against Nottingham Forest.
With the game appearing to be heading to a goalless draw, a potentially damaging two points dropped for Liverpool in the title race, Nunez stepped up in the 99th minute to head home for the visitors.
Cue the travelling Liverpool fans, who entered into what can only be described as a frenzy-like state filled with pure joy, passion and relief.
What it means for the title race?
Nunez's extremely late winner sees Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the table to a healthy four points, although it is worth mentioning that both Manchester City and Arsenal have a game in hand at the time of writing, and will both play later this weekend.
For Arsenal, very little changes as, for a team of their calibre with aspirations of winning the Premier League title, an away clash against a struggling Sheffield United is a game you simply have to win regardless of external circumstances.
But, for Pep Guardiola's City, the Manchester derby, a potentially tricky match given the unpredictability of local derbies, has now become a must-win if they are to keep pace with Liverpool.
