It has recently been revealed that the FAI and Department of Sport have been preparing an official bid to host the 2029 UEFA Women’s Champions League final at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
The bid was formally submitted just under two weeks ago, following an expression of interest made by the FAI to UEFA in October, with a preliminary bid also submitted in February.

Alongside Ireland’s Aviva Stadium, the Principality Stadium in Wales, Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France and Switzerland’s St. Jakob-Park in Basel are also in the running to host the showpiece event.
Despite strong competition from across Europe, sources suggest Ireland’s proven track record of hosting major sporting events could play a key role in UEFA’s final decision.
Since 2011, the Aviva Stadium has hosted two Europa League finals and is also set to be a venue for the men’s European Championship in 2028.

Ireland continues to build a strong reputation as a major sporting host, with events such as a recent NFL game and the upcoming Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2027 further strengthening its credentials.
Should the bid be successful, the final would bring significant economic benefits to Dublin and could also help further grow participation in the women’s game across the country.

While Ireland has hosted several major sporting events in recent years, the Women’s Champions League final has never been staged in the Republic of Ireland.
Bringing the showpiece to Dublin would mark another step forward for the women’s game and further strengthen its growing profile across Europe.
