Manchester United’s plans for a new 100,000-capacity stadium have taken another major step forward after the club confirmed the location of the proposed development.
However, despite the progress made with the land purchase and regeneration plans, Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) have outlined six key concerns they want addressed before the project moves forward.
MUST’s six key concerns over Manchester United’s new stadium
Manchester United confirmed last month that they had completed the purchase of land required for the new stadium, which will be built around 350 metres north west of Old Trafford.
The move forms part of a wider sports-led regeneration project at Trafford Wharfside, supported by Trafford Council, the Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Transport for Greater Manchester.

United have also confirmed that supporter consultation will continue as the project enters its next phase, something welcomed by MUST.
The supporters’ group responded to the latest developments by outlining six areas where they believe fans need further clarity before fully backing the move away from Old Trafford.
Their concerns include:
- Affordability: Ensuring match tickets remain accessible for ordinary supporters.
- Atmosphere: Protecting the unique culture and identity of Old Trafford rather than creating a soulless new stadium.
- Funding: Providing clarity on how the project will be financed and the balance between debt and investment.
- Fan ownership: Exploring whether supporters should have opportunities to invest through fan shares.
- Personal Seat Licences: Avoiding the introduction of PSLs in general admission and season ticket areas.
- Heritage and identity: Preserving the history, traditions and matchday experience that define Manchester United.
MUST will present the findings of their latest supporter survey, which received 3,200 responses, to the club next week as they look to ensure fan opinions influence decisions before they are finalised.
The debate over United’s future home remains divided, with some supporters wanting Old Trafford redeveloped while others believe a new stadium is required to compete with Europe’s biggest clubs.
FGG says: United must avoid losing the soul of Old Trafford
Manchester United’s new stadium project has the potential to transform the club’s future, but winning over supporters will be just as important as completing the construction.
Ensuring fans feel heard throughout the process will be vital, with affordability, atmosphere and preserving the club’s identity among the biggest concerns.
