Manchester United fans were subjected to a brutal chant from Hull City supporters after their miserable trip to the MKM Stadium took another turn for the worse during Saturday's Premier League opener.

United suffered a 2-0 defeat to the newly promoted Tigers, with goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy giving Hull their first-ever Premier League victory over the Red Devils.

But the travelling supporters were handed another problem late in the game when they were informed that scheduled trains back to Manchester had been cancelled.

With United already trailing by two goals, the stadium announcer informed supporters that the 3:03pm and 4:03pm services to Manchester had been cancelled.

The announcement was met with cheers from the home supporters, who quickly seized the opportunity to pile further misery on the visiting fans.

Hull supporters responded to the announcement by chanting: “You're going home in a taxi.”

The taunt added an extra layer of humiliation to an afternoon that had already gone badly for United.

The travelling fans had watched their side produce a disjointed display as Hull made the most of their opportunities, scoring twice from set pieces before half-time.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring after Senne Lammens had initially denied the hosts, while Nobel Mendy doubled Hull's advantage with a close-range header from Regan Slater's free-kick.

Michael Carrick attempted to change the momentum at the break by introducing Marcus Rashford, who made his first Premier League appearance for United since December 2024. However, the visitors were unable to find a way through Hull's defence.

The result was particularly significant for Hull, who were returning to the Premier League after a nine-year absence, and it was also their first league victory over Manchester United since 1974.

Manchester United suffer nightmare start under Carrick

The defeat represented a major setback for Carrick, who had been handed the permanent United job after an impressive spell in charge last season.

Expectations had been high heading into the new campaign, particularly after United strengthened their squad during the summer.

However, they struggled to impose themselves despite enjoying a huge chunk of the possession, as Hull were more aggressive, better organised and considerably more effective from set pieces.

The loss also extended a worrying trend for United, who have now suffered four defeats in their last seven Premier League opening fixtures.

For Hull, meanwhile, the afternoon could hardly have gone better, as the Tigers returned to the top flight with a statement victory, while their supporters enjoyed the rare sight of United's travelling contingent enduring an afternoon of frustration.

FGG Says: United fans will hope their travels become better

There was little United supporters could do about the train cancellations, but the timing made an already painful afternoon even worse.

Hull's supporters had every reason to celebrate after watching their side produce one of the biggest results in the club's recent history.

For United, however, they will hope such results do not become a regular occurrence on their travels, as it would make the trips become sore, especially in a season that carried so much optimism before it started.
