Curva B suffers structural damage following earthquake
Curva B is the home of one of the two main Napoli ultras groups. However, following checks into the structural damages caused by the earthquake in mid-April, it has been announced that the lower section of this stand will have to be reconstructed before next season. The investigation into the damage caused found that urgent work was needed to fix the steps in Curva B that had been broken due to the earthquake.
The Municipality of Naples also conducted structural checks on the rest of the Napoli stadium. They employed a specialist company in engineering checks who assessed the damage. It came back that the rest of the stadium didn’t need to be reconstructed, like Curva B.
Reconstruction cost of Napoli Stadium
The overall construction cost of rebuilding the damaged section of Curva B is around 113 thousand euros. This is seen as necessary to ensure it is safe for fans to attend the stadium. While the work is ongoing, Curva B will have to be closed.
It was initially planned to take 45 days of construction work, starting from April 22, 2024. However, it is now expected to take slightly longer. Calcio Finanza reported that Curva B will not reopen before the end of Serie A, and it is more likely to be in the middle of the summer.
