Non-league club receive ‘encouraging signs’ over new stadium talks

Non-league club Nuneaton Town have received “genuinely encouraging signs” over their plans for a new stadium.

Nuneaton currently play their home games at The Oval, which is Bedworth United's ground, and the club have established the ‘Back to Nuneaton' campaign as part of their plans to return to their home town.

Nuneaton were evicted from their previous home ground, Liberty Way Stadium, in 2023, and financial issues led the club to withdraw from the Southern League Premier Division Central three months later.

The club was ultimately wound up by HM Revenue & Customs, but reformed in the 10th tier of English football and has been playing their home matches outside Nuneaton ever since.

In November 2025, the club announced a 49-year lease had been “approved in principle” by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for a new ground in Vale View.

However, that was thrown into doubt in June after it emerged that the council had “reservations about the suitability of Vale View” as the “preferred site” for the new ground.

Camp Hill has secured up to £20m through the Government's Pride in Place programme. The consultation area now includes all of Whittleford Park.

Further talks have since taken place and the club is feeling positive about the chances of a return to Nuneaton.

In an update, they said: “There are genuinely encouraging signs emerging from our discussions with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

“The new Council administration is developing a more detailed understanding of the nature and scope of the project, and that deeper engagement is producing a more constructive dialogue.

“The Council is also reevaluating the other sites previously discussed alongside Vale View.”

The club also outlined plans for the new ground to “serve as a community hub”, stating that they plan to “work with other organisations to provide often much needed services and facilities to the wider community”.

It is a real shame that Nuneaton are unable to play their home games in the town, but hopefully that will change in the near future.

The ‘Back to Nuneaton' campaign has been running for a while now and is clearly hugely important to the club.
