Nuneaton Town’s hopes of returning to their hometown have been given a major boost following an exciting update from their local council.
The newly reformed club are currently playing their home games at The Oval in Bedworth – five miles away from their former home of Liberty Way.
Over recent months, the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has been working with the club to find a potential new site, and latest reports from CoventryLive indicate a resolution could be around the corner.
The outlet revealed that Vale View – a recreation area in Stockingford – has been named as a possible location for a new ground.
According to a council paper, Tomkinson Road, Vernons Lane and the Pingles Avenue Road pitches have also been mentioned in a council paper.
Despite this, Nuneaton Town are strongly leaning towards Vale View as their preferred site as they look to embark on a new era.
Nuneaton Town’s ground history
Manor Park (1919-2007)
From the very early years of the club until their first liquidation in 2008, Nuneaton played their home games at Manor Park.
While the ground had a capacity of 6,000 at the time of its closure, the record attendance was 22,114 during an FA Cup clash with Rotherham United.
Liberty Way (2007-2024)
A revived Nuneaton club moved into their new home on Liberty Way for the 2007-08 campaign.
Their stay at the ground lasted until their eventual eviction in 2024 when the football side, known at the time as Nuneaton Borough FC, once again faced a financial collapse.
The Oval (2024-present)
Playing home games away from the town you are representing cannot be easy, but it was the only possible option for a newly revived Nuneaton FC.
The club continue to play their matches at the home of Bedworth United FC.
Nuneaton seek long lease
One of the key areas for progression is securing a lengthy lease, and the council is backing Nuneaton Town in their efforts to get one that lasts for 49 years.
This, according to a council report, would help the club attract external investment and funding – two things that will be pivotal in the club’s bid for a new ground.
The Football Foundation and the Birmingham County Football Association are both reportedly backing the club to get the required funding, while fans have also rallied after starting a ‘Back to Nuneaton’ campaign.
Key requirements for a new Nuneaton ground
Should Nuneaton Town secure enough investment to pursue their exciting stadium vision, there are a number of league requirements which the club will need to meet.
For instance, the ground will need to include a covered area for a minimum of 300 spectators – with 150 of those being seated.
On top of that, the club will need to have an adequately sized 3G pitch, as well as a fully functional clubhouse.
FGG says: The next steps
Nuneaton Town will be thrilled with the fact the council have named Vale View as a strong contender for the club’s possible location.
In terms of next steps, the proposal for a new ground and the lengthy lease will have to be debated at a cabinet meeting.

The local Town Hall is set to stage the consultation, which has been scheduled to take place on November 12.
In the meantime, Nuneaton will be looking to continue their fine work on the field, with the side currently flying at the top of the Premier Division South league.
