Nottingham Forest supporters produced a striking tribute inside the City Ground ahead of their latest Premier League fixture.

The display referenced one of the club’s most famous quotes from legendary former manager Brian Clough.

Nottingham Forest fans send ten-word message to doubters

Nottingham Forest fans unveiled a large banner across the Trent End at the City Ground before their clash with Fulham on Sunday.

The tifo carried a ten-word message reading: “We hope anybody’s not stupid enough to write us off.”

It echoes a famous line delivered by legendary manager Brian Clough during Forest’s historic European Cup run in 1979.

After a dramatic semi-final first leg against Cologne ended 3-3 at the City Ground, Clough warned critics not to underestimate his side.

Forest backed up that statement by winning the return leg in Germany 1-0 to reach the final, where they defeated Malmo FF in Munich to lift the European Cup.

The banner arrives during a challenging period for Forest on the pitch, with supporters using the moment to remind doubters of the club’s history of defying expectations.

The Tricky Trees' faithful have long been known for creative displays inside the City Ground, and this banner is another example of that tradition.

Referencing Clough’s famous quote is particularly fitting given the club’s heritage and the role belief played in those remarkable European triumphs.

Even during difficult spells on the pitch, gestures like this show how deeply supporters remain connected to Forest’s identity and history.
