Scotland are reportedly set to play the Ivory Coast in a World Cup warm-up match in March, with a Premier League stadium being eyed as the venue.

The Tartan Army are preparing to make their first appearance at football's greatest tournament since the turn of the 21st century.

Starting their qualification process as third favourites to top their section behind Denmark and Greece, Steve Clarke's side defied all expectations.

Ultimately, it all came down to a final-game showdown against Denmark, who dramatically lost 4-2 at Hampden Park to send the Scots to North America.

Heroes of that night in Glasgow, Napoli star Scott McTominay and Norwich City's Kenny McLean netted iconic goals past Kasper Schmeichel.

Scotland to face Ivory Coast at new Everton ground?

Due to their success in qualifying automatically for the World Cup, Scotland have two free slots to fill up with friendly matches in March.

According to The Scotsman, the Tartan Army are scheduled to welcome AFC giants Japan to Hampden Park in one of those contests.

The report also claims that Scotland are keen to face African opposition, with Morocco drawn into their group at the World Cup.

As a result, it is understood that Clarke's men are set to battle with the Ivory Coast in March, although a venue is yet to be confirmed.

However, Scotland are supposedly targeting a ground in the North of England, with Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium the preferred destination.

As well as the brand-new Merseyside arena, Newcastle United's St James' Park has also been touted as a possible ground for the fixture.

How else will Scotland prepare for North America?

With plans for March still up in the air in terms of venues, Scotland are set to face fellow World Cup minnows Curacao in a warm-up fixture in late May or early June.

It is important that the Tartan Army face a wide range of opposition in their friendly matches, given the nature of their section at the North American tournament.

Clarke's troops will pit their wits against foes from three different continents in a competitive-looking Group C.

FGG says: Variety is the spice of life

When the March international breaks rolls around, it will be impossible for Scotland to replicate the weather conditions that are likely to face the team in North America during the summer.

However, the Tartan Army can mimic the types of opponent they are scheduled to face, welcoming countries from across the globe to the UK in March.
