Sevilla president delivers new stadium update after ‘two months of silence’

Sevilla FC president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco has broken nearly two months of silence with a fresh update on the club’s long-planned Stadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan redevelopment, a project many supporters have been eagerly awaiting details on.

Del Nido reaffirmed the club’s commitment to building a modern stadium on the same site in Nervion, insisting the scheme will financially sustain itself and form a pillar of Sevilla’s long-term stability if approved and executed according to current proposals.

The update comes amid renewed attention on stadium infrastructure in Spanish football as clubs and cities prepare for future challenges, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup and evolving commercial demands.

While the club has been relatively quiet on the topic in recent months, Del Nido’s remarks signal that planning and financing discussions are advancing and remain a priority for the board.

Sevilla not considering permanent move away from Sanchez-Pizjuan

Rumours emerged that Sevilla were looking to permanently move away from their current home to Estadio La Cartuja, leaving supporters confused.

However, Carrasco debunked this speculation in an interview with Canal Sur Radio, firmly stating that the club is not considering a permanent move to Estadio La Cartuja.

According to the club president, the rumours about this permanent relocation are unfounded and are not in line with the board’s actual plans.

Carrasco revealed that if the club were to ever play at La Cartuja, it would be a temporary home during the demolition and rebuilding of a new stadium.

The president also debunked speculations about plans to convert the stadium  site for real estate development, categorically rejecting these claims.

Del Nido emphasized that the club has no intention of pursuing a change in land classification. The exclusive goal is to construct a new stadium on the current site, as the ground's location within the Nervion district renders any commercially motivated rezoning virtually impossible.

Despite the renewed public statements, several hurdles could still affect timelines, including securing final planning permissions from municipal authorities and formalizing financing arrangements.

Financing the new Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan

With Sevilla navigating a challenging financial period, questions have naturally arisen over whether the club can realistically afford an ambitious redevelopment of the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan

The president made it clear that the project would follow a self-sustaining financial model, insisting the stadium will effectively pay for itself.

Rather than impacting the club’s transfer budget, the new stadium would be financed through long-term loans secured against projected future income generated by the venue.

The expectation is that an upgraded Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan would significantly increase matchday takings, boost hospitality and VIP revenues, attract more non-football events, and enhance stadium tours and commercial activity.

FGG Says

This update from Sevilla’s president is a welcome reset to a saga that has left supporters in limbo for too long. That said, talk must now turn to action, and as seen with other clubs planning major rebuilds, momentum and transparency are everything.

Sevilla must now convert strategic ambition into tangible progress so that Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan’s transformation becomes a source of pride, not frustration.
