Sheffield Wednesday supporters could see long-term changes to their historic home if a proposed takeover is completed.
The club’s preferred bidder has now dropped a potential hint about his vision for improving the ageing Hillsborough Stadium.
What has David Storch said about redeveloping Hillsborough Stadium?
American investor David Storch, who is the leader of the group aiming to complete a purchase of the club, has suggested the Owls' iconic home could be gradually redeveloped if his takeover bid is successful.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Storch pointed to the redevelopment of Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, as an example of how historic venues can be modernised without losing their character.
The American businessman believes Hillsborough shares similar qualities with the famous baseball venue, describing it as a stadium with “class” and “panache”.
Rather than building a brand-new ground, Storch suggested a gradual redevelopment approach that would improve facilities while preserving the ground’s history and atmosphere.
“I saw what the owners in Chicago did to Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs team, and I think there’s that same kind of excitement and opportunity here at Sheffield Wednesday,” he said.

FGG says: Encouraging words but the takeover must happen first
For Wednesday supporters, hearing talk of investment into transforming Hillsborough will be welcome and rare positive news.
The stadium is one of English football’s most recognisable venues, but has long been in need of significant upgrades to modernise facilities and improve the matchday experience.
However, any redevelopment plans remain firmly dependent on Storch completing a takeover of the club, and as such, until ownership finally changes hands, talk of stadium improvements remains speculative rather than guaranteed.
