Despite the club not winning a trophy since 2008, Spurs fans remain one of the best in the country.

In recent years, Tottenham supporters have significantly added to their songbook in the stands. This has been helped by X accounts such as @SpursSongSheet, where chant ideas are shared.

Spurs football chants

Oh When the Spurs

At the start of last season, Tottenham played the anthem “Oh When the Spurs” as the players walked out onto the pitch. Sung to the tune of “When the Saints go Marching in”, this has been a fan favourite chant for many years now.

Lyrics:

“Oh, when the Spurs, go marching in,

“Oh, when the Spurs, go marching in,

“I wanna be in that number,

“Oh, when the Spurs go marching in.”

Come on You Spurs

The “Come on You Spurs” chant is often sung by Tottenham supporters when the team needs a lift after going a goal down, or has a set piece in a dangerous situation. It is a simple chant that is sung by all four sides of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially for big matches.

Lyrics:

“Come on you Spurs!

“Come on you Spurs!

“Come on you Spurs!”

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme a Ginger from Sweden

Dejan Kulusevski joined Spurs in January 2022 and has been a consistent performer for the team since. In his 96 appearances for The Lilywhites, he has scored 15 goals and registered 19 assists.

As a result, he has become a popular player on the terraces, leading to the fans singing an adapted version of the 1979 song ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’ dedicated to the Swedish winger.

Lyrics:

“There’s not a soul out there,

“No one to hear my prayers,

“Gimme, gimme, gimme a ginger from Sweden,

“He came from Juventus,

“And he plays on the wing,

“Gimme, gimme, gimme a ginger from Sweden,

“Number 21,

“His name is Kulusevski.”

He’s the reason

Like Kulusevksi, Rodrigo Bentancur also joined Tottenham in January 2022. Despite his injury struggles in 2023, the Uruguayian midfielder has still made his mark in North London, helping the club qualify for the Champions League in 2022. During the 2021/22 campaign, Spurs fans paid homage to Bentancur’s contributions with the chant, ‘He’s the reason’.

Lyrics:

“He's the reason,

“We're playing on Wednesday next season,

“He came with his mate from Sweden,

“He's Bentancur.”

Micky van de Ven, Van de Ven, Micky van de Ven

In his first year at the club, Micky van de Ven won Spurs’ Player of the Season in the 2023/24 campaign. His pace and defensive ability were crucial in allowing Postecoglou to play his preferred high line, and his absence was felt during his two-month spell on the sidelines due to injury. Due to his performances, van de Ven was given a chant to the tune of ‘Give It Up’ by KC & The Sunshine Band.

Lyrics:

“Na na na na na na na na,

“Micky van de Ven, van de Ven,

“Micky van de Ven.”

Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur

This song was first sung by Tottenham fans, especially during the double winning 1960/61 season. In preparation for the 1981 FA Cup final, the Spurs squad recorded a version of the song along with Chas & Dave.

Lyrics:

“Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur, (x3)

“And the Spurs go marching on,

“Tottenham are the greatest team the world has ever seen, (x3)

“And the Spurs go marching on,

“The pride of North London, we're the kings of White Hart Lane, (x3)

“And the Spurs go marching on,

“Loyal Spurs supporters and they come to every game, (x3)

“To watch the Spurs go marching on.”
