Tweede Divisie player ‘loses three teeth’ in tunnel attack as match abandoned in chaos

A football match in Holland was abandoned after a shocking incident left a player with three teeth knocked out.

The extraordinary scenes unfolded during the Tweede Divisie clash between IJsselmeervogels and GVVV, with the match called off at half-time as tensions boiled over.

IJsselmeervogels defender Quiermo Dumay was involved in an altercation in the tunnel shortly after the first half ended.

The 25-year-old was left with three teeth missing and blood on his kit, with medical staff called to treat Dumay as the situation quickly escalated.

There were also clashes between rival fans in the stands, with police and stadium security forced to intervene and bring things back under control

IJsselmeervogels club secretary Gerrit Kok described the scenes as “bizarre and unprecedented” and said the club would investigate what happened.

“What happened this afternoon is a shame it went this way and that is putting it mildly, bizarre and unprecedented,” Kok said in a statement released on social media. We really need to investigate this thoroughly of course.”

GVVV chairman Hans Schinkel, meanwhile, told RTV Utrecht: “I have seen the photo, and your first thought is: what has happened? You want to know what has happened. We will hear that shortly. I believe an investigation is now underway.

“A report has even been filed with the police. But I do not know what happened, so I cannot pass judgment on it.

“I do not think it was an IJsselmeervogels player who dealt the blow. But of course you never know what the reason was. But whatever happened, it can never be justified.

It is good to see a full investigation is underway and a strong punishment must be dealt once the perpetrator is identified.
