It's now been a week since Vincent Kompany was officially announced as the new Bayern Munich manager and while most Burnley fans understand his decision, there has been some disappointment among the Turf Moor faithful that the Belgian had failed to say goodbye to them.
However, last night, the official Burnley X account posted a video from Kompany who wanted to take some time out to show his gratitude to Burnley fans for the two years of support during his stint at the Lancashire club.
The ex-Manchester City defender said:
“It starts with a message of thanks, of course. I was very lucky, I was surrounded by hard-working people and players who gave everything. I felt privileged and honoured to be welcomed, and to be part of such a good environment – so for that, thank you.
“The best way to describe how I lived it is that I think I gave everything back. The best memory I have is beating Blackburn at home 3-0 and then going and beating them at their home and winning the league there – that was good. I loved every moment at the club – it’s been a very important part of my life.”
Kompany shares message to Burnley fans on his own social media
Shortly after Burnley posted the 51-second video on their own social media, Kompany re-shared the video onto his own profile with the following message:
“To everyone close to Burnley Football Club: I am filled with gratitude for having been a part of the Burnley FC family for 2 seasons. I am humbled by the role I was given in the rich history of this beautiful club and I am really proud of what we have achieved together, in good and bad days.

“To everyone at the club, from owners to players and staff: you have been amazing. And most importantly to all the fans and the entire Burnley community: I cannot thank you enough for always being there, through thick and thin.
“You are the solid rock this club is built on. Burnley will always be a massive part of my history. Forever in my heart, Vincent.”
Burnley fans wish Kompany well after video message
Before the video was recorded, many Burnley fans were frustrated at how Kompany had conducted himself since links to Bayern Munich surfaced. They found it particularly disrespectful that during his first press conference as Bayern Munich boss, he didn't mention Burnley once.
However, the heartfelt goodbye seems to have repaired the damage. One fan posted on social media: “All the best Vinny! Last season was a struggle but you gave us probably one of our greatest seasons ever in the championship, the style of football, the wins against Blackburn (winning the league there), the feeling of our town being proud and alive it was a pure buzz, thank you.”
Another added: “All the best Vincent, can’t really turn down the Bayern Munich job! You’ll always be in The Burnley fans' hearts for what you did that championship season & especially beating them lot down the road twice & winning the league at that place.”
