Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was at the centre of a slightly uncomfortable moment after the Gunners' 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round over the weekend.

What did Mikel Arteta do after Arsenal's win over Wigan?

Caught on video as he left the Emirates Stadium with his family after the game, Arteta found himself approached by an Arsenal fan asking for a signature on a shirt.

Despite the praise from supporters and a dominant performance on the pitch, the focus briefly shifted towards this awkward exchange that quickly went viral on social media.

The footage shows Arteta stuck in traffic outside the ground, with one supporter imploring him to sign the shirt.

Arteta, who had clearly already declined the request, chose not to wind down his window before driving off, leaving the Gunners fan without the autograph he had hoped for.

FGG says: An awkward exchange but Mikel Arteta is only following Arsenal protocol

The brief moment has sparked a mixture of reactions from Arsenal fans, with some criticising him for not engaging with the supporter while others have defended him, given that he was with his family.

It's understandable that fans want moments such as getting an autograph, especially in the euphoria of a win, but he is with his wife and kids, trying to get away from the stadium.

There are also club protocols in place to stop anything untoward from happening – it would be the same situation if it were a player instead of Arteta.

It is not as if the Spaniard was hostile. It was just a bit awkward in the moment, and the Gunners boss always makes time for the supporters before matches, signing things and taking photos.
